Quick Hits: Toys R Us Wouldn't Sell Me A Lego Set, And The Usual

It is a breezy Southern California morning, and here I am typing away indoors. Hello Pixlbit! Friday is here, and I am ready to do something fun during this extended weekend. I don’t think I’m going to travel, but I do see a trip to the local mall for some new music, maybe a pretzel, and just maybe a stop at the local comic store on the way home. How are you good people? Anything fun planned this weekend? Let’s get this latest edition of Quick Hits started!

Chris Listens To…

Amy Schumer – Cutting

So after missing out on her stand up at the local casino (I was lazy) I decided to check out this stand up and I enjoyed it. I wish more comedians would offer their stand up routines online. I know Aziz Ansari does it and hopefully Amy does it in the future.

Quiver: The Green Arrow Podcast

While listening to these folks discussing the season finale the host brought up an interesting theory. He felt that the end of this season felt like a Series Finale because everything was wrapped up, and there was a lot of fan service for the folks who are pro Ollie and Felicity. He went on to say that he could see that what could happen in Flash could reboot this series (this was before the season finale of The Flash.) I thought this was interesting enough to check out the season finale of The Flash.

Chris Watches…

Edge of Tomorrow

So this was one of the movies I watched while sick last week. I thought it was going to be a terrible film, but it turns out it wasn’t bad (even after I stopped making Groundhog Day comments.) The concept about reliving the same day over and over again would make an interesting video game. Your character starts out not knowing anything, but after playing a certain sequence over and over again, you start to get better and you slowly progress in the game. Some folks might find it fun, others probably like myself would get tired of it.

WWE Payback/NXT Unstoppable

There was two events last week, the main WWE Pay Per View, and the WWE Network exclusive, and by far my favorite of the two was NXT Unstoppable. WWE Payback had some moments like the teaser of the SHIELD reuniting, Paige making her return to the ring, and what has become a pretty decent rivalry in Cena versus Rusev. This couldn’t overcome the NXT product, which was full of action, and each match delivered in quality especially the two Divas matches. Easily the best match of the night was Sasha Banks versus Becky Lynch for the NXT Divas Championship. The majority of these wrestlers could be on the main roster and put on a better show.

The Flash Finale

I don’t watch The Flash but after hearing about what could happen in the show effect Arrow err Green Batman, I had to check it out. I kind of had an idea of who everyone is based on the crossover stuff that happened between Flash and Arrow, so I wasn’t really lost. I thought for the CW the story within this episode was solid, having the dilemma that Barry faced, the easter eggs, and the ending was all really good. I liked this season finale much more than Arrow’s. I’d like to see both Arrow and Flash interact with the new super hero shows including Supergirl (CBS owns the CW)

Masterchef

A new season and a new judge is what is in store for Masterchef. What I like about this show is that the talent is much better than the professionals on Hell’s Kitchen (I’ll continue to stand by my opinion that I would take the kids who didn’t win on MC over the top 5 chefs on Hell’s Kitchen.) I don’t see a clear winner like I did last season, but there are a couple of folks I am rooting against.

Chris Takes Pictures

My first picture is of some bees that were outside on Sunday morning. I was talking to my friend on the phone when I saw this so with my free hand (no Bluetooth headphones) I snapped a couple of shots of this

This is easily one of my favorite pictures

The next shot I was playing with the light and I liked how the sky made the plants look like they were photoshoped in, and playing with the standing in a shadow while taking a picture of the bright blue sky.

The next two pictures were taken earlier this week around breakfast when I heard some noise and the neighborhood birds were out and about

Random bird walking around.

I think this is the same roadrunner that ate the baby hummingbirds.

And this was the sky this morning. A lot of clouds, but no rain

Chris Tries To Buy Sneakers Online

So coughing up a storm last Saturday morning, it was also the time for me to try and get the Air Jordan VII’s “Hare.” Flashback to ’92 where a younger Chris wanted them but had no idea where to get them, plus I didn’t have the $100 for them. Anyways flash forward to a month ago where while looking through Instagram I saw that they were being re-released (there was another retro of them that I missed) and this time I had the cash for them. So Saturday morning rolls around, and at 7am pacific they went on sale. Since the local mall doesn’t have a Foot Locker, and I don’t want to wait in line at Champs or Finishline, I did the wait game online.

I was in line on the Nike website on my iPad as well as on my laptop.

On the Champs website I kept hitting refresh

And by 7:30 all the sites said sold out. Yep, it looked like I struck out. I decided to play some tablet games and around 9am I said let’s try good ol’ Finishline (earlier in the morning the site wasn’t letting me in)

Two clicks later and I get this email

My sneakers are currently on a truck heading for my house by the end of the day (I’m hoping they will arrive by noon.) This is the first pair of Jordan’s I bought on release day since 2006 when the Military Blue IV’s dropped for $125. I remember that my brother and I walked into the store at 10am, no line, walked to the counter, and bought our pairs.

Links Links Baby!

Coldplay tries to make a Game of Thrones Musical

Shenmue and Streets of Rage Heading To Vinyl – Engadget

I like that these soundtracks are being released and for you vinyl fans this could be a must buy.

Lego Ant-Man Set Announced – Polygon

Of course I’m going to get this, because it’s another Marvel Superhero set. I don’t know if I will actually build the bug because I’m not a fan of bugs (or the big spider from Lord of the Rings set.)

Apple Dropping the 16GB iPhones for the 6s – Cult Of Apple

I’ve been on the S series when it comes to phones, and if this is true I guess I’ll have to get a 32GB phone. This might actually be a good thing considering I’ve been using my phone as a music player more and more. The funny thing is that I don’t really have any games on my phone, and a handful of apps, so I guess the rest of the space will be music and photos.

Pickups!

Music

Nothing too fancy this week

I’ve never seen the Pitch Perfect flicks but I do like the soundtracks. I think the last Zedd album I bought was on a whim and found a couple of songs I really enjoyed, so when I saw this one next to Pitch Perfect I bought it too.

Toys

I still can’t find the Fast and Furious ’70 Escort at my usual spots, but I might hit the ghetto Walmart after I finish this blog to check. Anyways at the local Walmart I found this car

I always found the Le Mans cars interesting because of their shapes.

So while browsing Reddit I saw that certain Toys R Us stores were selling the new Imperial Shuttle and sure enough my store had them on the shelves

A year ago Toys R Us had the UCS version but $300 was a bit much for a Lego set. This one is smaller but it is one of my favorite ships from Star Wars (I still can’t get my hands on a Slave I.) I went to pay for it…and they wouldn’t sell it to me because it would break the 6/1 street date. Once again Toys R Us teased me. The last time this happened was when I was buying the Hulkbuster along with the Iron Man / Ultron Showdown but they wouldn’t sell me the Showdown set even if both had the same release date. Anyways on release day I’ll probably get it priced match from Walmart or Target because it will save me a couple of bucks.

Anyways I did pick up a couple of polybags

I got the Tie Fighter Prototype from Star Wars Rebels and another Electro. A week after I bought my first Electro the box that they were in was empty, and I just happened to find a couple of them under a bunch of Ninjago figures. I left the other three for folks who needed them.

Alright Pixlbit, my weekend has begun, and I’m currently sucked into Injustice on the iPad again, because I’m so close to finishing off the final two levels. Have a good Memorial Day Weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Wait, a streetdate for Legos?  Why the heck is there a streetdate for Legos, and better yet why are the enforcing it?

Yeah they have a street date because some of the sets can spoil the movie they are associated with (The Iron Man Cliff House set ruined the surprise of Pepper wearing the Iron Man suit for me.) The local Toys R Us that I tried to buy it from said they have been fined already, most likely from releasing the Hulkbuster a week early.

I dig Amy Schumer. I actually expected a good movie with Edge of Tomorrow because of reviews and was underwhelmed. The pictures you take are ones I'd like to be taking. Love catching animals in freeze frame.

My plans for the weekend are packing and seeing what we can move before my lease is up on the 31st. Have a good weekend!

Thanks! Yeah I like capturing animals, and I might hit up the local "zoo" (it's more of a wander around a desert with paths and you can see wildlife. The more scary ones are actually in cages)

Hopefully you also had a good weekend and moved all of your stuff.

yo man your photos look great.  do you have a long zoom lens?  I could never get that close to the birds in my yard.  I would love to take their pics though.  I've been mostly shooting video with my DSLR for music related stuff.

All I know is that Imperial shuttle lego set is freaking sick.

Thanks! Yeah I used a 55-200mm lens and I don't know what I did but that day I was getting some really good shots.

I can't wait for that Imperial Shuttle to go on sale. That vehicle is one of my must have sets.

For some reason when you said Edge of Tomorrow I thought of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow which wasn't a great film, but had a great visual style that I liked. I never got to Edge of Tomorrow. After hearing all about it, I don't think I'll see it now.

I liked some parts of Sky Captain. It was interesting but that art style was so cool. Edge of Tomorrow is one of those lazy Sunday movies. If its on and you have nothing better, check it out.

So... why would they have it on display if you can't buy it? Seems silly to me. Also... love your photos. They're frigging gorgeous!

That's what I'm saying. Usually some managers will try and override the computer because it was on the floor, but this guy wouldn't. Oh well. I'll wait the week. Thanks man, appreaciate it.
