Title

So do you guys remember X-Men vs Street Fighter?? I do!! I was and still am a big fan of the cross over series that capcom has done..So when X-men vs Street Fighter came out I was blown away. I was at the time a huge comic fan, and enjoyed playing street fighter very much..So you put them together and bam you got a game I was so into!!

I remember seeing this game early 97. Think it was when we were at spring back, meaning no school!!. Lot of times we went to a local mall to play arcades! We went inside Tilt??

Not sure if you heard of this place?? But there was like Tilts in every mall we would go to. Tilt was a place that was full of arcades to play. So I was minding my own biz and getting my change..one dollar to 4 quarters. When I heard "This is X-Men VS Street Fighter!!!" I was like what the..turned around and there it was, a brand new machine..Nobody was playing it why??

Arcade

Well a lot of the times we would go to the mall when it opened up, so there was nobody at Tilt.. We did that so we could play some of the arcade games before the crowds got there. Cause once you get the crowds in there..It was going to take forever to get your turn to play!!

So I put 2 quarters in..Yeah I it know sucks..Trying to make money I see..Used to be just 1 quarter to play..Sorry just had to had to say my 2 cents on that...And off to playing Xmen Vs Street Fighter.  My nostalgic first appearance review.

Xmen Vs Street Fighter has 16 characters to play with. Well 17 akuma in there as well. You have to do a little trick to select him.

At the characters selection screen highlight either Magneto, Juggernaut, Dhalsim or M.bison and press Up and Akuma will appear.

Yeah pretty basic, they should have just added him in there..but i guess it was going to screw up the character select screen?

Screen

So then you have Magneto, Juggernaut, Dhalism, Bison, Sabertooth, Storm, Chun-Li, Zangief, Gambit, Rogue, Cammy, Charlie, Wolverine, Cyclops, Ryu, Ken, and the lame I can't do the code to pick the secret guy akuma..They should have just added him in there!!

Well after spending time and butt load of quarters in the arcades, I was spending money like no tomorrow..I was so excited to hear that capcom was going to release a port of the arcade game, so that would help me spend less money on the arcade!!

So I bought the playstation 1 port..something was missing..I do not know what it was..Let me think??? Hmmm maybe a video may help you out??

No!!! Did you notice anything..He never tagged out?? Why?? Long loading..Let me go to the kitchen and make a sandwich. There was no rounds?? Both characters fight so there is just one round?? How come there is just one health bar in there..This is a crossover game so you should have both meters?? Also the playstation version is slow..There is some spots in the game where it just slows down!! This is the arcade version!

So to break it down, the playstation port just sucks!! It is slow, does not allow to switch out your partner. This is the whole point of the game to switch out on the fly and have a different characters in there.

To be fair there was a bit of trick to actually get it running like the arcade. To switch over the character like the arcade..

In the VS Mode you and your buddy would have to pick the same characters..Like for example Ryu and Ken. Your buddy then would have to pick Ken and Ryu. Then and only then you switch out anytime you wanted to?? Lame!! This would work because the playstation would load up only 2 instead of 4 characters at a time..Since you are using the same 2 characters, only difference is that they had different colors, it worked. Because the lack of ram of the ps1, this was the only way possible to play it like the arcade.

I was very frustrated! I payed 50 bucks for this game to have a limped version of the game, really?? I was bummed out to know that I was not going to have the the arcade version at my house. So there it goes..the only way to play it like the arcade was to actually own the arcade!! Which was just crazy to my dad lol..Told my dad anyways and he laughed and said No!!! You are crazy son!! Now cut the yard!! Man this just blows..

So I cut the yard, mowing down not only the grass but also the frustration of not owning a true arcade port of the game.

So about a year later and still playing the crappy playstation 1 port..Walked into a local gaming shop and they had xmen vs street fighter..but it had Japanese writing?? I asked of the guys "Hey is this the import version of xmen vs street fighter"?? The guy said "Yeah sure is".. I told him if there was any differences? He said "From what?? the playstation 1 version"..He laughed and was like "Oh yeah man"!! I was like why?? He told me "Well cause this is the sega saturn version"???? What the?? It came on the saturn?? Yep he told me it only came out in japan and the port is arcade perfect!! Blasphemy!!! I was like yeah right. I happen to look at the price tag and it was 80 bucks!!! I was like nah I pass!!

Many years passed. I think it was about 2006 or so. I happen to come across a sega saturn with 1 controller all the connections and a memory card for $19.99!!! I was like oh yes!! So with me having a saturn..The next step was games..Well..It popped in my head xmen vs streetfigher!!!!! Sreaming like the mortal kombat theme MORTAL KOMBAT!!! But I was screaming X men vs street fighter!!!!!!!

So after looking online I had to find a way to play import games on the sega saturn.

After some reserach I found out that the sega saturn was capable of playing xmen vs street fighter just liked the arcade! It had a ram cart that expands the ram allowing it to play xmen vs street fighter perfectly!! Oh yeah the hunt was on..Get on ebay and find the cart..It is called 4m Pro action reply cart..Looks like this

Cart

It saves, gives you extra ram, allows you play import and it saves games on there was well!!

So I got the cart you put it in a slot in the sega saturn towards the back

Back

Next was getting the game..I happen to find me a rough copy of the game..But i did not care all i cared was that the game played!!

Front

The japan version of the game had a included ram cart..But since i have the pro action replay cart, put the cd and off you go!! And that's when I finally had a arcade port at home!!

Everything was in there..Little to no loading time, true version of the game..There is no limitations of the game!!  The only downside is that the endings are in Japanese..But who cares..I am in for the fighting of the game not story!!

Xmen Vs Street Fighter PS1 Port

Pro

..None...The ps1 port sucks!!

It does include more options, like a training option, and some minor secrets..But that is the only thing going for this port of the game. Lackluster!

You do not have to buy extra stuff to get a import version of the game working on the ps1 since there was a usa release.

Cons

Everything!!

Loading sucks, slowdown in game play, and no switching out on the fly!! Should have called the game Xmen and Street Fighter. That is the selling point of crossover games. Switch in and out on the fly!

Xmen Vs Street Fighter Sega Saturn Port

Pro

Arcade perfect, just flawless!!

Menus are in English so you do have to guess OK is this the options??

The cost of the game is not bad at all..It is about 20-35 bucks..Even the ps1 port cost about that much..SO YEAH!

The Sega Saturn controller is perfect for this game..It has 6 buttons just like the arcade port. 3 buttons on top and bottom

Cons

UMM None..

Japanese text on the ending of the game

The cost to play this game on a USA Sega Saturn.

System, game, and pro action reply ram cart = Kinda pricey but worth it!

Now this is a nostalgic and my way of doing a review lol..Some history between me and the game lol!!

Comments, questions?? Fire away I will get back to you pronto!!

Man, you really can tell the difference between the Arcade/Saturn and the PS1, looks like a sweet game when it's at full speed!

It's a great game.  The last time I played the arcade version was the summer of '99.  I was kicking ass in that game.  I bought the SAT port.  I use to read GameFan and they warned people about the PS1 port.  I bought the Japanese version w/ ram cart.  I use to have to swap my import cart with the ram cart to get the game to work before I finally bought a 4-in-1 Action replay.  Those were some good times. Cool

I wish I still had mine.  The only way I play the game now is through emulation.  One of these days I'll get that game again.

I played this game all the time after school at a kids club waisting my money and getting finger craps, it was excellent.Laughing

Why they haven't made something similar to this since (not counting Marvel Super Heroes vs Capcom), It had different levels to each stage like that one in the street and you fall down and instead of the character simply disappearing they dramatically bounce off screen. Small stuff I likedSmile

Yep, that is something I noticed as well!! I like that where the floor breaks thru and you fall thru!! Man I wish i was part of that kids club to just play that game

Dude you can see the love you have for this game, a very personal story here and a good read, I never really played in arcades, at least on a regular basis, it must have been quite gutting to love a game so much, invest so much time and have to leave it behind until the next day! The only arcade game I ever pumped serious money into was house of the dead, me and my bro would bash that one whenever we could!

Yeah much love for this game. This was the reason why I got the saturn is for this game..So yeah it has opened up many more games for the system as well. House of the dead is so cool man! Love playing that game!!

I probably preferred this one marginally over Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Sure it had less characters but it felt more balanced as a whole!

Oh..I prefer marvel vs capcom 1 over part 2

But yeah i agree xmen vs street fighter is tad bit better than the marvel vs capcom series

I haven't played this one, but I have played Marvel Vs Capcom 1 + 2, and Marvel Super Heroes. It looks pretty similar to that last one. Man that sucks about the ps1 port. It seems like there were several ps1 fighting games that got a sucky translation. Street Fighter Alpha on ps1 is horrible lol. The loading times are so bad and it loads after almost every single thing you do. I can't even play that version anymore.

Yes tell me about it, the alpha version pretty much sucks..Except maybe the third one..But still rather prefer the saturn version!
