So, allow me to get this uncomfortable news out of the way. I recently lost the job I had (working as a machine operator for a factory that makes specialized copper fittings for plumbing) due to one bit of tardiness that couldn't be excused by upper management. I was under a 90 probationary period where, among other things, if I was late for any time that couldn't be excused, I would be fired. I was late one day for 5 minutes due to a traffic jam near the workplace and because I called the company hotline (to notify them about the problem) too close to shift time, the tardiness wasn't excused. So the best job I've ever had (definitely in terms of pay and benefits) ended just like that. I feel so stupid. I know that it won't be long before I get another job but I worry that it won't be as good as this one in terms of pay. So I'm job hunting again. I'm not worried about my prospects but that I had to start all over again so soon felt like a gut punch. It hurts to tell anyone about it even though I'm sure most if not all of you have been in this situation.
- But, fuck the pain. It'll pass so lets move on to a happier note and that is that I'm gaming more often these days. Recent acquisitons:
1) my Xbox 360 finally died so I took an opportunity to finally upgrade to an Xbox One. I like the system so far and I love that most of my digital purchases from the older system have carried over. So far I'm playing Gears of War UE, Gears of War 4, Stardew Valley (of course I am) and I have Witcher 3 Complete Edition, Titanfall 2, The Witness, Skyrim Remastered (I LOVE MODS) and some 360 games: Burnout Paradise, Left for Dead 2 and others. If you want to play with me or friend me, my handle is MongoSantaMaria.
2) my PS4 had to be replaced due to disc drive issues and I got a Slim model. I had saved my games to an external hard drive and all the saves are in the cloud so I was able to resume where I left off. Recent games: Far Cry 5, Assassin's Creed Origins. Gamefly sent me Wolfenstein II. Oh, and there are of course the huge backlog for that system alone.
3) Snagged a deal for a used SNES Mini console ($60) and it's so cool to play those games again. I haven't played almost half of the games before and I missed the window to get some of them through the Wii Virtual Console before it shut down last month (Super Castlevania IV, Contra III, Donkey Kong Country) so its valuable in more ways than one.
4) Speaking of Wii, I got a sealed copy of the limited edition of Super Mario All-Stars for $20 from a local gaming store. I set up the Wii in the back room of my house with the older, non-HD tv so I'm just glad that I now have a copy of this.
I saw Isle of Dogs last weekend and being a Wes Anderson fan, I loved it. Of course, I'll be seeing the Avengers movie this weekend (in IMAX, yay!) but I'm also catching up on films from last year.
That's all for now. I hope everyone is doing well. Later!
