Good morning Pixlpeeps! This morning I was listening to this song

And it is a cover of New Order’s Bizarre Love Triangle

Fun Chris Fact: You know that scene from Easy A where Olive gets the greeting card?

Yeah it was like that for me. Every morning before I left for High School MTV would always play this music video. On Monday I thought it was a terrible cover, and by Friday I thought it was the greatest single on earth. I eventually taped it off the radio (I now own the album).

Yesterday it rained, and rained, and rained, and rained some more here in damp Southern California. As you know we don’t handle weather very well if it doesn’t include the words “Sunny”, “Nice”, or in my neck of the woods “triple digits”. Everything else is basically #StormWatch(Year). Unlike the previous storms late last year where the news reporter stood by a wet parking lot talking about a flood, there’s an actual river flowing through the storm drains. Heck the runoff area/kinda park in front of the house was flooded, so much so that the HOA called a guy to come and clear out a drain while we had our “downpour” (you folks with actual seasons might laugh at this). I stayed inside all day with the exception of going outside to watch pour guy with a hose trying to open up the drain while StormWatch19 was happening.

Chris Watches…

I haven’t been watching a lot other than my go-to shows, but when I was streaming the WWE Network, I got a commercial for Kingdom Hearts. I usually get WWE commercials (I never understood this because I pay for the service, why do I need an ad telling me how great it is) but now a random non wrestling commercial shows up. I hope this isn’t going to be a new thing, but it probably will be, which sucks.

High Noon - Amazon Prime

I was in a western mood and why not watch a western that has an actual princess in one of the major roles (Grace Kelly wasn’t a princess yet. That’s like saying you watch Suits to watch Megan Markle). Anyways it’s about a Marshall who is retiring and got married on the same day the bad guy he put away years ago is coming back to get some revenge. It seemed like it was taking place in real time and man did they know how to make it feel dramatic. I liked it, check it out.

This weekend it's another WWE Pay Per View, Elimination Chamber. That should be interesting because the winners of the Women's Chamber will be the first WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.

Chris Listens To…

I have started using the radio feature on my little Benjie S5 a lot more

01

Remember this little guy?

And at night I’ve gone back to listening to the Art Laboe radio show. He plays oldies and reads dedications that people send in usually from Southern and Central California. It’s the usual songs from the 50s/60s and I usually listen to this for about an hour before falling asleep.

As for the big sort of 2019 I am almost done! I think I am currently at the T’s in my external digital library, and when I finish the rest I will proceed to download the stuff I bought from Amazon and Google Play. I can’t wait for it to be finished.

Chris Reads…

I still haven’t picked up a book or hit play on an audiobook in a week. I’m being lazy, catching up on podcasts, listening to radio stations now, etc.

Pickups!

Games

Ok so in back to back weeks I’ve purchased a game for the Switch. This hasn’t happened to any console in a while. After the Nintendo Direct presentation that I didn’t know happened until Twitter gave me the highlights. My cousin actually told me about a sale that was going on and a game that I wanted to try was on sale.

02

I’m a sucker for music rhythm games but I wasn’t going to spend $30 to try it out. $10.50 with no tax was a better deal and it was digital so I can play it without removing whatever game is currently in the Switch.

Music

So after I got paid I made a pit stop to the trio of thrift stores that are close to the library. At the first thrift store with the crazy percentage off sales that are constantly going on I got these albums

03

Beethoven - Symphony No. 9

Jenni Rivera - Parrandera, Rebelde y Atrevida

Jack Johnson - To The Sea

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium

Elvis Presley - Welcome To My World

Thanks to the Amazon 100 tracks of X Composer for .99 cents I have a lot of Beethoven, but I also want a physical copy in the event that I get back to ripping everything in FLAC. I’ve never listened to Jenni Rivera but a lot of my friends like her music so I’ll give it a shot, I guess I’m starting to build a Chili Peppers collection, and Elvis because it’s Elvis. I think I paid a total of $2.50, maybe less.

I decided to poke my head into the thrift store with the bitchy old lady works and I saw that they labeled their CDs at .25 each. SCORE!, right? Well after going through their stuff it is a lot of religious stuff that I’m not into, sprinkle in one or two bright spots but the discs look like crap. I’ll check again next week.

The third thrift I haven’t visited in a while and it was a gold mine! The problem is, they also raised their prices and each album had a different price: $3.99, $2.50, $1.99, $1.50. It sucked but there were albums I wanted so I dropped $20 which hurts considering I usually spend that kind of money at the mom & pop and I usually dig through their freebie bin. Anyways

04

Green Day - International Superhits!

Earth Wind & Fire - The Best of Vol. 1

Big Pun - Capital Punishment

George Clinton - Greatest Funkin’ Hits

Kool & The Gang - The Best Of

Run DMC - The Best Of

Troop - Attitude

Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Devil’s Night Out

Mighty Mighty Bosstones - More Noise & Other Disturbances

Mariachi Sol De Mexico - Corazon Buenas Noches

I like Green Day but I don’t have their GH album, Earth Wind & Fire replaces my mix of Greatest Hits from a couple of Value CDs I found over the year and replaces the LP I sold at my Garage Sale. George Clinton, Kool & The Gang, Run DMC for various holes in my growing up and high school playlists, The Bosstones because c’mon they’re the Bosstones, and I took a chance on Mariachi Sol De Mexico. I like Mariachi music, they are going to perform at the county fair and by chance I found this album so I can give them a listen. If I check them out live at least I’ll know a couple of songs.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. I need to hit the grocery store because I need to pick up some stuff and maybe hit the Dunkin for a donut and ice coffee. That’s a healthy breakfast right there. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

(After I hit save, I went to get my donut and ice coffee. Now I’ll edit and upload. Have a good weekend)

I definitely prefer the cover song, which is funny cause I do like New Order ... now I want Dunkin.

The cover has a sweetness to it, which I like. I'm making a trip to Dunkin during my errand run in a bit.

I want iced coffee. Used to LOVE that stuff. Now it does weird things to the muslces in my back. Maybe I'll fix that when I lose weight?

I picked up two things from the local used record store last week: Christopher Parkening's Sacred Music for the Guitar (vinyl, $2), and this weird two CD collection called Area 51 (2CD, $6). It has Hawkwind, Amon Duul II, Tangerine Dream, Gong, and a host of bands I never heard of doing alien conspiracy theory related music. I love getting collections and sountracks sometimes because of that great track I might find.

That's odd, but exercise is always good. In fact I need some myself.

Sounds like you got some good stuff at the music store. Soundtracks and Compilations are where it's at. That was how I used to find new artists before the internet.

I just joined Pandora. I think I might be done with rips and burns.

I remember when I was a kid, my parents took us on a road trip, and my older brother shared one of his ear phones with me and we listened to New Order together. Very good memory.

That's one of the best things about music, a song can come on the radio and boom you remember the moments that are associated with that song.
