In which I had to get it started if I wanted to get it done

So, as Rick Dalton has his moment of crisis and doubt and overcame it, I did the same with Super Mario World, as far as the main road to Bowser's Castle was concerned. The last 2 areas leading to the castle (Chocolate Island and Valley of Bowser, if memory serves correct) were the hardest of the journey, harder than I remember. Trying to make it through Larry Koopa's castle was so maddening (Magikoopa, eat shit and die, you fucking fuck) but I eventually powered through. SMW also has one of the great end credit sequences in a video game; the music, the character roster, the long trek back through all the worlds (at least as depicted through the background).

Now the only challenge that awaits is the special area that is unlocked by the Star Map. Oh dear god. I cleared it in my youth but man, that was so long ago.

Recently, I had some financial difficulty getting through the past month (to make it to the next paycheck) that I had to pawn my 2DS and PS3. I eventually got them back and while pawning them did help making it through the last two weeks of February, I truly did miss them. When I booted up Animal Crossing New Leaf, all the citizens told me they missed me and wondered where I had been for so long. That's the genius of that game: making you feel not only like you inhabit a living community but one that actually notices your absence.

And I'm truly late in getting around to it but I finally bought Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. As much as I love A Link to the Past, you'd think I would have got around to this sooner but alas. It plays like a dream and I love the painting mechanic. Will report back on when I've made more progress.

While I don't play horror games a lot, the recent success of the Resident Evil 2 remake and the upcoming remake for RE 3 has inspired me to actually play more of the series (more than I have anyway). The remake for RE was on sale on PSN for $4 so I got that. I have all the PS1 RE games and RE 4 HD already. Now I just need to carve some time for them. And eventually, I'll get to the recent remakes. I've watched quite a few let's plays of RE2 remake and RE3 looks just as amazing. I've been watching Youtube channels like The Sphere Hunter and Carcinogen SDA and they have been entertaining and enlightening about the game series overall.

A few days ago, I rebought a used copy of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3. It may not be the best Sega Genesis compilation available but it was a good price for under $6 and it's one of the few ways you can play the original Phantasy Star (yes, I know the Switch has it available but I don't have one yet) as well as the others (which are available damn near everywhere). Grindy as hell and impossible to beat without a guide but I love it just the same.

I'll stop here. Thanks to the replies to my last blog posts. I've always appreciated this community. One day I'll muster the courage to be active on the Discord channel. Or blog more. Till next time.

Super Mario World is one of the few Mario games I've beaten to 100 percent.

A Link Between Worlds is great.  Although not a good game to show if you are arguing that Nintendo doesn't rehash old ideas.  Still, if I wanted to replay a Zelda game, this would be right up there.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is pretty cool. I like the Shining Force games and played Phantasy Star 1-4 there too.

I never really played but a snippet of RE4 before now, bit I've been enjoying my RE2 rental. I too might like to jump on these RE deals.

I played through the original Resident Evil 2 and loved it. I haven't decided though if I'm gonna play the remake.
