A much needed break, Jak & Daxter beats me up, more digital game purchases

The school where I work observed spring break all last week and on Saturday, I drove out of town and arrived at my parents' home in under 4 hours. I haven't seen them since Christmas vacation. I also needed a much-needed break from a surprisingly punishing work week. I buffed school building floors, did detail cleaning in all 3 gyms and ended each night cleaning some offices for a local gas company (the employee in charge of this is still recovering from a bad fall she had back during one of February's icestorms).

I would come home absolutely drained and while I know that I would've relaxed on the weekend, it was better spent with my parents and my younger sister. Good food was prepared, I spent plenty of time playing with their dog, Lilly, and their cat, Tinkerbell. Not at lot of games were played (even though I brought my Vita) but I did watch a movie or two and mostly continued reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (halfway through now).

Gaming wise, I'm still hitting the classics. After finishing RDR and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, I needed something different and my copy of Jak & Daxter HD Collection seemed to be a good choice. So far, I'm 78% done with the first game and I like the game overall but it doesn't make things easy. Ever. It kind of boggles my mind that no map feature was made for the game; these levels are so well-detailed that I retreated to Youtube play videos to find some stuff. Some of the platforming moments have driven me nuts but they're not impossible.

I bitched about the platforming challenges to TripOpt on twitter and he told me this: Wait until you get to Jak II. It'll give you nightmares. Gulp.

I bought Max Payne 3 for the 360 when it was on sale the week before. Pretty good so far and they're not joking about the similarities to the film Man On Fire. Anyone else got this? I'm curious about doing some multiplayer with a friendly.

I also bought Just Cause 2: Ultimate Edition from PSN last week as well as Bioshock 2 and Fez for the Vita. I'd like to get to those at some point.

Unless MIcrosoft delays it again, I plan to purchase Titanfall for the 360. Anyone else up for this?

Recent dvd pickups:

James Bond Ultimate Edition Vol. 2 & 3
Rome Seasons 1 and 2 (one of the best tv shows EVAR. ERMAGERD.)
The Spectacular Now
Short Term 12
Stories We Tell (the last 3 were pretty cheap at a Hastings; they were three of my favorite films from last year; highly recommended)

Anyone besides me looking forward to Captain America: The Winter Soldier this weekend? I'm thinking about making time for both it and Noah this weekend.

Enough from me. Enjoy the week and don't work too hard.

I'm glad you got some rest, that sounds well deserved and needed. Unfortunately, my immune system decided to put my work out regimen out of commission against my wishes, so I'm typing this from bed, where I'd usually be in my office, but it seems to be slowly going away with Allegra D, cough drops, rest, etc., so hopefully I'll be back up and walking on an incline soon enough.

I'm excited to see Winter Soldier for sure! Definitely seeing that this weekend, hoping I can find a couple friends. Noah I'll wait for on DVD. It looks good, though.

I would be up for Titanfall, but my XBL expires the day it comes out and I don't really feel like shelling out the cash for it and another XBL card. I'll wait for a discount on both of those.

I would be getting Titanfall but Im waiting for a price drop. Your pretty much paying 60$ for no story, only multiplayer and 60 isnt worth that. I dont know if you watch AngryJoe but his review video pretty much sums up what ur getting when you buy it. When its drops to 30 ro 20 Ill buy it then. I do hope you enjoy it though!

If it's really good mulitiplayer, it could be worth it. I don't purchase $60 games that often and I still find it tempting after everything I've read or heard about the game.

Of course, now my problem is that I bought Diablo 3 for the PS3 this morning which could sabotage my plans to buy Titanfall next week. Hey, its dropped in price to $40 and I always wanted to play it. We'll see.

It depends on the person really, I prefer games that  carry story to them whether its multiplayer or single. While I can get into multiplayer only games Im just not the type of gamer to see 60$ worth for multiplayer only, especially since I prefer to play with friends and not many of them game with me right now. Ill prolly still get Titanfall it just will be once it drops in price. If your still up for playing it once I buy it ill def jump on and play it with ya.

Im wanting Diablo 3 but Im waiting on the PS4 verison. Ill prolly be waiting a good while but hey nothing new, lol!

If I had a PS4, I'd wait for Diablo 3 as well but I doubt I can afford one anytime soon.

Well I am glad you are playing Jak and Daxter even if I can't tell how much you are actually enjoying it.

I actually enjoyed the winter solider even if it ruined one of the coolest orgainzations in the marvel universe. I wonder how they'll explain that on the TV series.
