A Boy Named Swirl

Eating at McDonald’s tonight, which I have mixed feelings about.  I love Big Macs, don’t get me wrong, but the experience of going to McDonald’s is crappy.  It’s much easier to go to Chic Fil A.  I don’t agree with Chic Fil A’s politics – I think gays should be afforded all the rights anybody else has – but damn, their customer service is good, even if their menu lacks… diversity.  But McDonald’s is always such a crapshoot of customer service, who knows how long we’ll have to wait, and who spit in the special sauce, etc etc.

Otherwise things are mostly the same here.  The puppy seems to get bigger every day, and her bark is getting deeper.  She’s getting more chill, but she still has her moments when she chases after our poor 15 year old dog Taco.  Well, it’s a process.

As far as games go, I haven’t touched Mario Kart for a couple days, but I’ve been playing Borderlands on the Vita, which I’m pretty impressed with actually.  IT looks great, first of all, and while control was hard to get used to at first, I’m getting the hang of it.  I’m trying to catch up to Chris Y’s level so I can play with him and his brother in law over the internets.  That would be fun.

IN other news, I’ve decided to fix my Macbook, which died months ago because I spilled coffee on it.  I didn’t want to do it, because it’s expensive but I have no other choice.  I need the files on it, and I need a Mac for music, and I need a working laptop, so it’s the only solution.  I hate spending so much money, but.  The other thing is I have thousands of dollars of music software for Mac only, and I already have it installed on the computer, so it’s just better to bite the bullet and do it.

I’ve been working on music a lot.  Nothing I can share right now, but rest assured, I have been productive.  This project is just for my friends, but I promise my next project I will share.  I’ve mostly been making rock n roll, just guitar and drums (I’m going to buy a bass soon, I swear!).  I have a bunch of projects I need to finish for music, and I want to go back and clean up some ones I thought I had finished but have some lingering doubts about.  Again, it’s all tied into fixing my mac, so….

I haven’t been writing.  Every night I swear I will, but I don’t.  It will happen though.  IT’s just hard with taking care of the puppy at night, and I’ve been so focused on music.

My next album is going to be a folk album, for those of you who like folk music (Tami!).  I figured I would do something different, and after finishing this rock record, I figured I’d dig out my old Yamaha acoustic and do something folky like I grew up doing.

Anyway, that’s basically it here.  I’m generally doing pretty darn good, but it is hot as hell here.  But other than that things are nice.  Hope all of you are doing great!

I haven't been to.McDonald's in years save a Shamrock Shake or two. Just tastes too fake to me, and feels depressing when I'm there. Like everyone working hates their job and is slowly giving up on life. Get the same vibe at Wal-Mart

06/14/2014 at 09:45 PM

Yeah, what Case said. I will eat an Egg McMuffin and maybe a cup of coffee but other than that I don't go in there.

now that it's over and I'm digesting this bilge, I have to admit it was a mistake.

06/15/2014 at 04:55 PM

I feel that way every time I walk out of mcdonalds.  Especially knowing that there are a billion better burger joints in my area...

Yeah, I don't like Chic Fil A's politics either, and I'm not a fan of using money to support campaigns intended to keep rights from people, but at the end of the day I think gay marriage will be legalized despite Dan Cathy's best efforts down the line. At least, that's how I've managed to justify my moments of weakness being on a campus where Chic Fil A is alyways right there in the Student Center near my office.

As for McDonald's, I go there cause it's cheap and easy. I don't need the customer service to be amazing, I just want my sausage and egg biscuit or McDouble or whatever, cause I'm hungry and broke right this minute.

Good luck on the music stuff.

yeah Chic Fil A does suck now that I think about it.

McDonald's is ok.  I kind of feel like ew now though.

I like Chic Fil A's food though. It's just too bad that, y'know.

Anyway, to Casey's point, I pretty much have to  go to Wal Mart for some things, being in a small southern town, but having had friends that work there, that whole giving up on life and feeling desperate thing is more than just a vibe. I have never heard a single good thing about Wal Mart from an employee I've known.

i hate walmart too, but when you're shopping for a family, there's really no other choice. They have the cheapest prices, and everything is there.  It just sucks.

If I'm near Dallas there are actually a few options, including Target, where people seem to like their jobs.

But yeah, in the country, Sam Walton is King.

Remember Snee the main focus of folk music is the lyric i.e. the story being told. :P

For the rest of you this stems from a twitter conversation between me and Mr. Snee.

yeah you know now that I have been making vocal/singing music again I think of that conversation an awful lot.  my lyrics are very important to me, I just think there's a balance between music and lyrics, and while lyrics are quantifiable, music isn't.

Super Step Contributing Writer

They're both subjective but have quantifiable elements. You can count big words as well as how many notes there are in a song, and you can argue about whether music or lyrics are good just as well.

Matt Snee Staff Writer

You can count how many notes but music is more abstract.  It cant really be described by words or anything else.  Thats because its music.  Thats what i meant.

Super Step Contributing Writer

06/15/2014 at 07:40 AM

It can totally be described by words. That's pretty much what music theory is.

Honestly, I know what you mean, I'm just giving you a hard time. Tongue Out

I've been playing Mario Kart 8 with my cousins or my niece and nephews. Tried a few online races, its really hard to get a victory though; mostly placed in the top five.

Yeah online mariokart is Freaking merciless dog eat dog stuff.  Pretty fun though.

06/15/2014 at 08:08 AM

Sorry to hear that about your computer. Hope it gets fixed.

I haven't given up on McDonalds and if there's no option I wouldn't mind eating there, but I try to avoid it every time as posible more for social reasons. I pretty much prefer Burger King, or some of the local fast food burguer joints in Colombia and also where i'm currently living.

Matt Snee Staff Writer

06/15/2014 at 08:57 AM

Yeah i only eat there occasionally.  Maybe once a month,  i guess thats not that bad.

06/15/2014 at 08:42 AM

I officially swore off fast food a few months back. Mostly for the same reasons as Epic and also because the more I learn about how this kind of food is "made" the less I think of it as real food.

I have been tempted to get the Vita Borderlands bundle especially since they got the cross save feature working. But I'm still paying off medical bills from my kidneystone fiasco so it will have to wait.

Matt Snee Staff Writer

06/15/2014 at 08:57 AM

Its a good bundle but another will come along.

Yeah it is bad shit.  I usually eat healthier stuff but occasionally the urge strikes and none of us feels like cooking, so...

06/15/2014 at 01:34 PM

I usually go to Popeye's, personally. The chicken is good and my money doesn't support positions I find reprehensible.

I don't think we have one of those here.  We had a Long JOhn Silver's but it burned down.

06/15/2014 at 06:44 PM

Isn't Long John Silvers a fish place?

and Popeyes is a Chicken joint?

Matt Snee Staff Writer

06/15/2014 at 09:51 PM

yeah but they're both like B-tier fastfood joints.  Tongue Out

06/15/2014 at 04:47 PM

I don't care much for Chic Fil A.  Their politics don't bother me.  What they do with their money is their business.  As unpopular their choices are, they sure are popular. Laughing  I just don't think their food is that great.  They have drivethru lines out into the streets in my area.  I'd much rather go to the other fast food places (McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Popeyes, Sonic, What-a-Burger, Rally's, Hardy's, etc).  The 2 places I rarely go to are Taco Bell and KFC.  I have to be careful what I eat at those places or I risk hitting the toillet....HARDFrown

i don't know if it's the local management or what, but the service at our Chic Fil A is just better than all the other fast food joints here.  So much to the point where the food tastes better.  There's only one thing I eat there, but we only go every couple of weeks, so, it's not a big deal.  I NEVER got to Taco Bell after having a terrible experience there 20 years ago, and now KFC is on my shit list as of recently too.

06/18/2014 at 11:42 AM

Oh McDonalds. I've compared the local McDonalds employees to poorly trained baboons. The only ones there that seem to give a damn are the older workers. The teens are useless there.

Vita on Borderlands!

Good to read about the puppy getting stronger. Hopefully soon you don't have to stay up with them Tongue Out

yeah still staying up with her.  she can't be responsible enough alone yet.

06/30/2014 at 03:44 PM

Ah McDonalds, you're so right about it being a crapshoot of customer service. I've had a few weird experiences, though to be fair, a few of them could be considered at least partially my fault.

I used to go to a combination Chick Fil A/White Castle, but the Chick Fil A side was always closed when I went there, which made me wonder when exactly was that side open.

i used to go to white castle when I lived in NYC.  bad shit, but so good.

07/02/2014 at 12:30 PM

I lurve eating at "teh chick" as we call it around here. Sadly I can only find them in malls since they have very few actual resturant locations. Their politics is just the icing on the cake for me. I'd shop at hobby lobby too if I was into arts and crafts.

I think I finally saw you log into your PSN account a few nights ago. Was tempted to invite you into a game of ace combat infinity but I'm not sure if your for aerial combat.

sucks to need to get your mac fixed. I hear those can be very pricy if you go thru apple directly. Truth is I not sure I'd trust a third party to fix my tech either. I still have a toshiba sattalite laptop that needs a new screen and hitsink or fan replace and I'm at odds on who to take it to.

Matt Snee Staff Writer

07/02/2014 at 03:22 PM

i like aerial combat but I don't have that game.  I have been playing Valiant HEarts and trying to finish that.

yeah I go back back and forth on fixing my mac.  Right now I'm in the fuck this phase.

07/03/2014 at 12:14 PM

perhaps once your done with valiant hearts you could give ace combat infinity a go. It is a free 2 play game offered on PSN. as a f2p title it's not that half bad.

I really like air combat simulators, to be honest.  I wish I had a joystick.  I often look at them on Amazon.  I heard Birds of Steel was a really good game.  I used to play the demo a lot.
