I think this is much ado about nothing. They said clearly in the announcement that this is games designed for mobile specifically and none of their current stuff. Translation someone will create Mario Crush Saga that will cost 2 cents to make and sell for .99 retail. This will be directed at the same non-gamer audience who play games on their cell phones while waiting for the bus.

Bottom line: Nintendo is going to make money off people who wouldn't normally buy their games by selling stuff the audience won't remember buying when they sell it to them again next month with another title. Angry Marios FTW!

Whats this? You brought a logical and reasonable response to my click bate? You're not doing it right! 
And what you're saying is true. I think Nintendo even said that it's their characters that are recognizable to the world, not necessarily hardware, innovation or software so it makes sense go mobile.
