GLaD 1: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Yeah, I'm a big chicken when it comes to these types of games.  And I do agree that Eternal Darkness understood the importance of involving the player on psycological level, rather than just jump-scares.

Wow, I wish I could get 100% on Star Fox.  You're making me want to fire that game up and try it again.

Tomb Raider 2013

I haven't played through any of the Tomb Raider games.  I did play the demo of TR II back in the PlayStation days.  I liked it, but I never got into the series beyond that.  The new Tomb Raider seems to explore just how much physical abuse from the elements she can endure.  Also seems to enjoy showing how much pain she can inflict on men.  Interesting.

Doesn't it suck that in this "instant gratification" world where everything is just a download away, you still get stopped cold by failed download attempts?  That really grinds my gears!

Societal damage: What female gamers still go through.

I gotta hand it to you man-- you know how to get people talking.  Great article.

There is much I could say on this matter, but I'll to keep it short:

There's obviously quite a few layers that factor into why there's so much idiocy directed at lots of lady gamers out there.  On the one hand, I think it has a lot do with what you and several others mentioned already about how the "ideal" man or woman is defined in the eyes of the entertainment and commercial industry.  They dictate how we should look, how much we should weigh, what clothes to wear, so on and so forth.  For men, we're taught that a real man doesn't really need to put in much effort in getting to know that big-breasted-yet-perfectly-curved lady he's staring down across the room in the Porsche dealership (because being able to afford one is the only indication of success and self-worth).  Nope, all he needs to is say some smarmy sexual one-liner, and *BAM*, they're in the sack together 30 minutes later.

One the other hand, you have the fact that, prior to the late 90's, gaming used to be always assumed to be a pastime that only male "nerds" or otherwise socially undesirable people played.  The only imagery of a girl playing video games usually involved coke-bottle glasses, braces, and pigtails...which was totally okay so long as the girl didn't look anywhere near the shallow definition of physical attractiveness.

But thanks to ploys like those famous E3 "Booth Babes" pushing games more and into the mainstream, suddenly sex and "beauty" spontaneously became apart of a gaming industry that just a while ago was looked down by "beautiful people".

I could go on and on about this, but I gotta get some dinner.  But like I said, great article.  Really enjoyed reading everyone's comments on here too.

Thanks for putting a name and face behind "Turn, Turn, Turn".  I never this version before.  I heard another group singing it.  Was it the Beetles?  Can't remember.
