My Favorite Games of 2013

Posted on 01/09/2014 at 12:11 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I've only finished Vice City, GTA 4, and now 5.  I have played some of the others, specifically 3 and San Andreas but never finished them.  I got to parts in the games where I just got stuck.  They do a lot better now creating missions that aren't semi-impossible to complete.

I saw this on Amazon a couple of days ago and it's only $25 there.  It was temporarily out of stock but you can still order it.

I like the game, but in what way is it reinventing action-adventure again?  If the game was called Uncharted 4, would people think that it was significantly different from Uncharted 1-3?  People would probably complain that there are less puzzles than in the first 3 Uncharted games.  It's a good game but it's not reinventing anything.

My goddamn 360 red-ringed again and I am not getting another one, otherwise I would play this.  I don't want to have to buy the game again on PS3.

Superman 64 is the first and last Superman game I ever played.  It's that good...

So when did we start calling RPG'S JRPG'S??

It's more about style and gameplay mechanics than the country of origin.  You could have a company in San Francisco develop a Final Fantasy clone and it would be considered a JRPG.  It's just a way of differentiating two styles of games that can be drastically different.  And Europe is still considered to be part of the Western world so I don't think you need to worry about ERPGs popping up any time soon.

I think the biggest problem is that publishers get greedy and try to change games in order to make them appeal to more people.  Using Dead Space as an example, Dead Space 2 sold well.  Rather than build off of that, they wanted to try and make even more money by opening up the series to a wider audience.  How do you do that?  By making a game that's more action oriented apparently.  But in doing so they alienated the people that enjoyed the previous games in the series because of the perceived change in direction, and they weren't successful in bringing in the new audience that they were hoping to.  Sometimes it's better to have a moderately successful niche title, than a by-the-numbers blockbuster.  But EA is in the business of making the most money possible so they took a shot and failed.  That being said, I actually enjoyed Dead Space 3 and didn't find the combat to be all that different from Dead Space 2.  Earlier today EA denied rumors that the Dead Space series is over so time will tell I guess.

The Greatest Game (and series) Ever

Not sure that I can say any game or series is the best ever, but it's definitely my favorite series.

You do WHAT now?

Hey, quit ragging on children and men who live with their parents. They're people too...  But I agree that there is a stigma attached to video games that will probably take some time to undo.

I never go into gamestop because I hate the aggressive salesmanship that has become so prevalent in retail nowadays.  Apparently life is so much better with magazine subscriptions, rewards cards, and credit cards specific to every store.
