So Sad.

I finished that game not too long ago.  Although I wasn't too happy with the way it ended, I really loved almost every second leading up to it. I thought it was a great game and the story really resonated with me.

Quick Hits: Superhero TV

I think I like Legends of Tomorrow more than all the other DC CW shows, although I did find both of the hawk people and Vandal Savage to be boring.  I'm glad all three are currently gone in the new season.  At first I didn't like Captain Cold's voice, but I eventually grew to love it and he actually became probably myfavorite character on the show.

What's With All the Sonic Hate?

I've not really either a fan or a hater of Sonic.  I never had a Genesis, so when I was young I would always be eager to play the much-hyped Sonic whenever I was at a friend's house who owned one.  I do think it was visually very cool, especially for the time.  But through the years after I spent enough time with the original games, I realized that they just weren't for me.

I wonder if alot of the current hate comes from the way that Sega tried to make it a direct competitor to Mario back in the early marketing.  Looking back, most people still consider the early Super Mario Bros games to be platforming materpieces.   When you compare Sonic to them, they are nothing alike.  When Sonic slows down, it actually becomes a pretty awful platformer.  Of course, it's not meant to be played that way.

It's really fun if you enjoy puzzle games.  The difficulty isn't too bad either.  For the most part they are all manageable if you try hard enough, and unlike some other puzzle games (like The Witness) there are rarely ones that seem like they are just trying to make you give up.  I've just about completed it (I think there about 100 puzzles) and I have only looked up maybe 5 or 6 solutions (and a couple of those were just because I was placing things just slightly wrong).

You are an android (maybe?) and between puzzles a disembodied voice claiming to be god talks to you.  You also interact with random computer terminals where you read a bunch of different stuff (passages from books, blogs and emails from some past? civilization), and then eventually start communicating with another person (or maybe just a AI messing with you?).  It's a pretty neat little mystery/story added to it.

Of Dragon Quest VII and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

I just got SMT IV Apocalypse in the mail a couple days ago.  I haven't really started it yet though, trying to finish a game on the vita before I go all in.  I wish I remember more of the story from SMT IV, but it's been too long so I hope I don't miss out on much when it comes to references to the first game.  I think I got the neutral ending.

Cary's Top Ten Favorite Police Officers in Video Games

I had forgotten about Keystone Kapers.  I had alot of fun with that game.  Another police officer from an atari game was from Maze Craze, although I don't think he had a name (and was even less detailed than Keystone Kelly).

My favorite video game police officer is probably Sonny Bonds from the Police Quest games.  Although it was my least favorite of the Sierra adventure games, I was still obsessed with all of them when I was a kid.

To be honest, I was kind of disappointed in Preacher.  I'll still stick around for the next season, but it wasn't nearly as good as I was hoping. As a fan of the comic I had high expectations, but it hasn't lived up to them yet.  There were definitely some high points that still give me hope for next season though.

When the show first came on, I told a couple other people with similar tastes that they needed to watch it, but after a few episodes I think they both gave up on it.

I did enjoy Stragner Things alot, and am looking forward to the next season.

Yeah, I'm with you on that.  What threw me off was your original comment that I quoted about bitter gen x'rs, but I kind of missed the first part of it where you stated you were specifically talking about the people who think "it's the best thing since sliced bread."  I'm still glad for them though, because I probably wouldn't have watched it if I didn't read those articles praising it.

Moving on, I also really enjoyed Korra, but I have to agree with Casey that the beggining of the first season and the third season were the best.  The second season is still worth watching though, although it's been awhile so I can't really remember specifics.

I really enjoyed Stranger Things.  While I think it was a little overhyped and overpraised, I think the apeal was a little more than just for "bitter gen x nostalgics..."  As a kid of the 80s and a huge fan of the "kids on an adventure" type movies that were so popular then, nostalgia certainly played a part in my enjoyment of it, but I'm not sure where the 'bitter' part comes.  I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the fans love Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones also (which I agree are better shows).  It's just that they did so much right.  Personally for me, the poster artwork and the opening logo and music are perfect.

Again though, I do agree it was overpraised.  My expectations were super high after reading so many great things about it, so I admit I was a little let down when I didn't think it was one of the greatest shows of all time.  My biggest disapointment was Winona Ryder.  While never thinking she was a particularly great actress, I've always liked her.  However, pretty much every time she showed up in this show I just found her annoying.
