The God Particle

Posted on 03/24/2013 at 06:47 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Deus Ex in your front yard tomorrow.

Serioisly though, these kinds of discoveries make me aware of my own mortality; will I exist long enough to see these advances reflected in our everyday society and lexicon? Will I want to?

I remember being in elementary school when footage was released of successfully(?) cloned sheep. As a young layman, I thought we'd be seeing Metal Gear scenarios in no time (wiki "Les Enfants Terribles"), and although genetic manipulation is happening (bug repelant Tomacco, etc), its not on the level of Sci-Fi pulp we grew up on.

So, will the Higgs be Jetson-fied? Will a new generation of kids grow up with God Particle expectations in their future? Probably not, but its fun to think about.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be worth buying again on Wii U

Yeah, the hard mode bosses left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. That recent "Rage-Quit" article sums up most of my feelings, though what bothered me the most was how much the bosses reminded me of something from the Metal Gear series, which I love in almost every case (which there are many of).

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be worth buying again on Wii U

I didn't know this was happening. I had been planning on mailing my 360 copy of HR to a friend, so it'd be nice to have a replacement (especially with these revisions).

Aside from the controller and (presumably) cheapest price point of this next-gen, the Wii-U hasn't done anything to catch my attention, but that just changed.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD

I always consider FFX my favorite in the series, but I'd rather have XII as well. It's just a better game (though unlike X, I could never get into XII's samey-looking cast).

I think my real love for FFX comes from the "VII-effect": the graphics were some of the most impressive I had seen at the time, and it was the 1st FF (and one of the 1st RPGs) I ever played. I think much of VII's adoration stems from this same formula.

I wonder if anyone remembers what a legend Adam Sessler is; I still have memories of watching his RE1 review on my black & white tube as a kid. I didn't know what a playstation was, and I didn't appreciate that there was a show on basic TV (no G4 back then kiddies) with adults talking on video games. Not as lassitude-inspiring murder simulators, but as entertainment.

Ninja Gaiden: Black (re-release of NG1) is still one of my favorite games ever, but as a consequence, I don't think I could ever appreciate another addition to the series; what more is there to offer? If they concentrated more on the vibe of NG1's first hours of gameplay (smaller engagements, older japanese settings, human opponents) then they might drag me back in....

If only Onimusha 4 and Ninja Gaiden could fuse together (long live Roberto's knuckled paste-makers).

Shock the Body: The Evolution of BioShock Infinite

This is the best news I've heard all morning (not that I've heard any other news this morning).

Still not sure how I feel about Infinite, though I don't doubt it will be good.

A couple of things I think would help us talk good, and do other stuff good too. LOL

I searched for this topic just in case someone had already addressed it.

I'd add something, but the point has already been made; keeping track of comments helps facilitate ongoing discussions.

Really dig the site and how well they're keeping up with user feedback. Having seen sites turn into haunted houses after their operators abandon them, this is a refreshing site.

Glad to see so many 1UP alumni transplanted here.

Remake Everything in HD Goddammit!

Phantom Dust. That is all.

I guess the ¥return on HD remakes and ports isn't high enough (especially for the obscure stuff I'd like), but I wish they'd do them more often.

Next Gen: So Far, So Boring

I'm not surprised by the slim pickings pre-launch (or the presumably slim post-launches), but I'm not forgiving of it either. That may be unfair, but I know I won't buy a new system until something really makes me say "we aren't in Kansas anymore". I know it takes time for developers to unlock a console's magic, but early adopters always seem to get punished for taking the 1st leap.

It took ES4: Oblivion to get me to cross the threshold to 360, but that was a completely new experience for my Morrowind-less mind. A generation of Season Passes later and I'm not sure what the next wave will have to come up with to really enamour me.
