Premium Accounts: A Slippery Slope

The problem with multi-tiered game packages.

When Activision first announced Call of Duty: Elite (their premium service for the Call of Duty franchise) there was an avalanche of criticism. Many felt that the service was taking advantage of the series’ loyal fans, some even going far enough to boycott the iconic shooter altogether. Since then, much of the hatred and anger that originally spawned form the Call of Duty: Elite announcement has subsided. Seeing the service in action, a large portion of fans have rescinded their original protests, with many now claiming that the service is actually a great value.

EA Likely Releasing Premium Service for Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 might be getting a subscription service in the vein of Call of Duty Elite.

Electronic Arts may have a subscription service in the works for Battlefield 3 similar to Call of Duty's Elite service. A "reliable source" has told website Battlefieldo that EA plans to release a premium service for the wildly successful FPS on June 4, 2012, the day of EA's E3 2012 press conference.

Three New DLC Packs Announced for Battlefield 3

Each pack will have a theme to it.

Electronic Arts is gearing up to release three separate expansion packs for Battlefield 3. Each pack will have a theme and will be released throughout this year. Close Quarters will be released in June, Armored Kill will be available in the fall and End Game will come out in the winter.

Latest Battlefield 3 Update Fixes PS3 VOIP Issues

Some gamers will still have some trouble though.

EA has announced a VOIP fix for PS3 owners of Battlefield 3 is now live. While the update will automatically download the next time you start the game, some users may have to jump through a few extra hoops to get their headset running.

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC Coming Soon

PS3 owners get a week long head start on the online mayhem.

Battlefield 3 will be getting its first major DLC pack soon, but if you own it on PlayStation 3, you’ll get it even sooner. That’s part of EA making nice with PS3 owners who didn’t get their promised free copy of Battlefield 1943 with their new purchase of BF 3. The official release date for “Back to Karkand” is December 13, with the PS3 version launching on December 6.

Rumor: EA Working on Army of Two Sequel

Also, multiplayer coming to the Dragon Age franchise?

It seems that EA needs to get their employees to quiet down, as we have had a lot of rumors leaking out from the company about tons of upcoming projects. There was the story earlier in the week about the possibility of Dead Space getting spun off into different genres, and the rumors of a sequel to Dante’s Inferno. You can add a couple more interesting tidbits to these rumors, as now we’re hearing about a new Army of Two game, and multiplayer coming to Dragon Age.

Battlefield 3 Sells 8 Million

A patch is also coming out to address some issues.

Battlefield 3 was EA's biggest day-one shipment with 10 million units and sold 5 million in its first week available. Since its October 27 launch, it appears that the title has continued to sell well. EA has announced that it sold an additional 3 million during the month of November and that has increased the total sales number to 8 million, with total number of titles shipped increased to 12 million.

Battlefield 3 Banned in Iran

Police raid shops as Iranian youths decry EA.

It is common for video games to be banned in different parts of the world for a variety of reasons, from violent content to a conflict with cultural mores. However, Battlefield 3 has been banned in Iran and it not only marks the first time a video game has been made illegal to play in the country, but the ban also comes at the request of an Iranian youth group.
