Backloggers Anonymous Mirror's Edge Part 2

Shiny Shiny Spoilers!

Well, we finished Mirror's Edge, and like most titles we play on Backloggers, it has its flaws to be sure, but it's a fantastic game. Make sure to listen to this 'cast once you've finished playing through since we spoil the ending about 5 seconds into the show, and thanks again for picking this game for us to play and for the feedback if you left us comments. I hope to do another community pick again sometime soon, so be on the lookout for another Backloggers poll.

Backloggers Anonymous Mirror's Edge Part 1

We also talk about *gulp* gender issues...

Yeah, that's right, we went there. It's hard not to, really, what with the current drama unfolding around Dragon's Crown, the Tropes Vs. Women videos, and what's in Lightning's bra. We handled it as well as 3 dudes on a video game podcast could, I think, but it would be fantastic if we could get some civil discussion going in the comments. We could have a great follow up when we get to our conclusion episode.

Hate, Love, and Apathy: My Complicated Relationship With EA

Worst company in America? Hardly.

EA has been in the news a lot lately, and it’s been pretty much all negative. Between the advent of the Online Pass, the botched launch of SimCity, and the appearance of micro transactions in full retail games like Mass Effect 3 and Dead Space 3, it’s really easy to dump on the company. I’m not here to do that, though. I have a complicated relationship with EA; one that moved from hate to love to apathy. So turn down the nerd rage for five minutes, because I’m about to present a different opinion on what a vocal minority consider to be the most hated company in America.

Rage Quit - Bloated Budgets

In light of the possible cancellation of Dead Space 4, Jesse loses his cool and goes on a rant.

At PixlBit we pride ourselves on reporting news and reviewing games with as little bias as humanly possible.  That being said, there are times when we don’t want to sit all quiet and polite and instead rage into the vastness that is the internet.

Rage Quit - Death of the Single Player

Get your multiplayer out of my single-player games!

As wonderful and awesome as the internet is, it really fucked things up for gamers like me.  It wasn’t really an issue in the early stages – that short period of time before it was as all pervasive as it is now.  Consoles remained offline for the most part, with only a handful of games offering any kind of online component.  Online gaming was for the PC crowd, not the console kids who enjoyed a far more streamlined and simplified gaming experience.

Premium Accounts: A Slippery Slope

The problem with multi-tiered game packages.

When Activision first announced Call of Duty: Elite (their premium service for the Call of Duty franchise) there was an avalanche of criticism. Many felt that the service was taking advantage of the series’ loyal fans, some even going far enough to boycott the iconic shooter altogether. Since then, much of the hatred and anger that originally spawned form the Call of Duty: Elite announcement has subsided. Seeing the service in action, a large portion of fans have rescinded their original protests, with many now claiming that the service is actually a great value.

EA Pushes Connectivity at Their E3 Press Conference

February 2013 is sure going to be a busy month for gamers!

EA came out swinging at their press conference on Monday, and though the company showed a slew of upcoming games, it was clear that they were on message with the overarching theme of this year’s E3: we need to be connected at all times.

THQ Sells Off UFC License to EA

THQ San Diego closes its doors as part of the transaction.

During the EA press conference, the massive publisher/developer casually dropped a bomb: EA had reached a multi-year deal with the UFC to develop games based on the wildly popular MMA franchise. That’s a lot of acronyms flying around, but in all the glitz and glamor of the EA press conference it was easy for even the most astute follower of the video game industry to not ask a very important question: What happened to THQ and the Undisputed franchise?
