Share Your Old School FPS Memories and Win a Copy of Wrack

You never forget your first.

It seems like there’s a fairly big movement to get back to the roots of first person shooters lately, with games like Toxikk, Xibalba, and even the Doom franchise returning to the mechanics and sensibilities that started it all. Wrack began this journey six long years ago and has almost reached its full release. If you have great memories of those early “Doom clone” days, share one with us in the comments and you can win a copy of Wrack on Steam! To get things started, some of the staff has shared their own. Just add your memory from those early corridor-stomping days in the comments, no matter how brief, before August 19th at noon Eastern time and you’re entered to win one of five Steam codes for Wrack!*

Personal Picks for GOTY 2013

Winners in our hearts.

Voting is a funny thing. It’s hard to argue with addition, but there are plenty of instances where some of the staff thought a title or two got overlooked. Pixel Art Mosaics Invade North Texas

Video games IRL.

I spend a lot of time playing video games, but when I started seeing images from the games I love around my part of town, I was a little freaked out. First, I saw a Creeper from Minecraft staring back at me on my drive to work, and then later happened upon a Pooka from Dig Dug. With a bit more poking around, I was able to find five little mosaics in Keller and Fort Worth that someone has installed in public areas – presumably without any sort of city funding or consent.

My Narcissistic Descent Through Minecraft

This is what happens when a god becomes a beast.

Minecraft does interesting things to people; sometimes it brings out our inner-creativity, and some-times it brings out unforgiveable actions that would shame a Kardashian. I’ve done some amazing and creative things in Minecraft, but I’ve also sunk to depths I never thought possible. This is the story of what I thought was a simple and sweet endeavor that ended with a sinister and morbid outcome. Minecraft transformed me from a man into a beast in the pixelated world in which I was god.

Indie PC Gaming for the Console Connoisseur

Indie gaming on the PC is easier than you might think. Here's an introduction to getting started, and some games you might enjoy.

People are always saying to me that they can’t game on their PC because it’s not powerful enough, or it doesn’t have this, or it doesn’t have that. Well, I’m here to tell you that might not be true.  While playing AAA games and other major releases may require hardcore gaming rigs, there are a lot of lower budget indie games available that are cheap and easily playable on the most basic of systems.
