Tour de 64: Bomberman 64

Cue obligatory "It's a blast!" pun.

Though sometimes listed as a platformer, Bomberman 64 is essentially an action/puzzle game. For those unaware, Bomberman is a long-running series which got its start on the NES. It stars little pudgy dudes with oversized round heads, who have an unlimited amount of bombs which they pull from... somewhere. Bomberman 64 brings the series into the third dimension, and features a single player adventure with some wonky puzzle elements.

Tour de 64: Body Harvest

Who keeps their machine gun ammo inside a barrel of water?

An ambitious game for its time, Body Harvest is more than just another "blast the evil aliens" shooter. When giant alien bugs come to Earth to gather humans for... some purpose... it's up to a nameless man in an orange suit of supposedly high-tech battle armour to save the day. The intrepid hero will travel around the world -- and through time -- using a variety of vehicles to blast bugs, carry supplies, or simply cover long distances quickly. Unfortunately, the game contains too many gameplay issues to be playable.

Too Much of a Good Thing?

How many times a week can Jason say his own name?

It occurred to me today that I never made one consideration when thinking about and planning for my podcast series: What do readers and listeners of PixlBit want? How much is too much? Personally, I'm willing to try to challenge myself to deliver a new issue of the podcast each day of the week. Though the sheer volume might be unmanageable at times, I think that right now, it can be done.

Tour de 64: Blues Brothers 2000

We're gettin' the band back together.

Blues Brothers 2000 is a platformer based on the movie of the same title. Having never seen the movie, I can't say exactly how the game follows it. The game has its own quirks, but I've been told not the ones you'd expect from a Blues Brothers movie. The object of the game is to collect all of the notes in your song, all of your band’s instruments, and rescue all of your band’s members so you can enter the Battle of the Bands.

Dragon Quest Pest: Tag Mode

Lest I jest, I bet my best vest this quest pest lacks zest.

Dragon Quest IX is a fun, traditional, single-player RPG that provides an additional, flexible, and open multiplayer experience.

Scott Pilgrim vs. Jason Ross

Jason gives his spoiler-free take on the latest video game movie.

I’d imagine many of you have read many of the mixed reviews for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. That’s ok. I don’t mind being a little late to the table with my own opinion of the movie. Since we’re a video game site and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a movie, I’d prefer not to write a formal review, and instead, describe a little of how the movie works. From my opinion, as well as the others around the web, it should be easy to decide if the movie is worth being seen.

Tour de 64: Blast Corps

Hardcorps

On the surface, Blast Corps. may seem like nothing more than a mindless demolition game. Upon further inspection, it becomes apparent that it is also a strategy, arcade, racing, and puzzle game mixed into one. Few games can be called truly unique, but there isn't much else out there like Blast Corps.

Tour de 64: Bio F.R.E.A.K.S.

BioFREAKing bland.

Careful observers will notice that, on the box of BioFREAKS, the word "FREAKS" has a period after each letter. As it turns out, it is an acronym for Biological Flying Robotic Enhanced Armored Killing Synthoids, something which I'm sure sounds like I just made up.

Mailbag Has Been Revived

Zombie mailbag wants your brains. (In a good way.)

Avid fans of PixlBit (Read: Zap) may have noticed I've mentioned the idea of a solo podcast a few times in the past month. While at first, the idea was uncertain, as time passes, it seems to be more and more of a sure thing. How does Mailbag relate? I want to read and respond to listener mail! That's right. I want listener mail! I know the podcast hasn't yet begun, but it will soon, so why not get a head-start? You could be featured. You could be featured in the first edition of "JasonCast" or "PixlJalk," or whatever we decide to name the thing. How about, for the first episode, you send in suggestions for the title of the show? As always, suggestions can go to mailbag AT pixlbit DOT com, but in this case, they can also be sent to jasonr AT pixlbit DOT com, too.
