Final Fantasy XIII Review

Massive changes to the formula have been made, most of which will alienate the die-hard fans of the series.

Final Fantasy XIII is an absolutely intriguing game. I say this because it has made some of the most radical changes I have ever seen in an RPG, especially for the by-the-book Final Fantasy series. In my opinion, these changes are absolutely phenomenal; boiling RPGs down to their essence and refining the remaining bits into a single coherent experience. JRPG and Final Fantasy fans are likely to be outraged at the massive overall seen here.

God of War III Review

God of War III coming soon to a theater near you.

Back in 2005 when the original God of War was released, I was not a PlayStation 2 owner. In fact, it wouldn't be for at least another year after its release, close to the release of God of War II, that I would actually acquire one. When I finally got my hands on the game, I was in love with it from the minute I turned it on. As someone who had always been deeply intrigued by Greek mythology I felt a connection with the game as it centered on a topic that I was passionate about. I put many hours into the game, beating it on every difficulty and unlocking everything the game had to offer. Not only was the game fun, but the storyline was fantastic and honestly I just couldn't get enough. With God of War 2, the same was true, and Kratos' second journey was even more interesting and epic than the first. Naturally with the announcement of God of War III, I was just as excited as the next God of War fan, especially with all the hype and the promise that it would be the best game yet in the series.

flOw Review Rewind

Evanescent flOw gives an abstractly artistic outlook on aquatic life, that which is as lovely as it is repetitive.

I find myself at a loss for words when I try to think of an introduction for flOw. Oddly, for a game that is so simple, it’s one that dances outside traditional categorization. I suppose, and I write it with a quirky smile, the title is the game – description, category, and a unique sense of being.

Marble Saga Kororinpa Review Rewind

There are few games I recommend for absolutely everyone, and Marble Saga Kororinpa has earned its place as one of them.

The makings of Marble Saga Kororinpa are very simple. The Wii Remote is a stand-in for an on-screen table, and tilting the Wii-Remote tilts the table. The basics are that simple, but the execution is, without a doubt, remarkable. In addition, players can make the marble bounce with a flick of the Wii Remote, and on-stage hazards and objects vary the game's mechanics, creating over a hundred unique and fresh stages for any fan of skill-based puzzles.

Metal Slug XX Review

This rerelease of Metal Slug 7 offers up beautiful new graphics and the ability to play with a friend.

The Metal Slug series is one that I have often enjoyed with friends in the past. I got my start with the series on the Xbox with Metal Slug 3, and later 4 & 5. Shortly thereafter, the collection was released for the Wii (amongst other systems) and myself and friends dedicated a good amount of time blasting through the entire series. The games were undeniably fun with a second player right by your side. Metal Slug 7 was released last year on the DS and I couldn't bring myself to pick it up without any sort of multiplayer included. I must assume that I was not alone, and as a result, SNK has rereleased the game with some additional content on the PSP as Metal Slug XX.

Red Steel 2 Review

Red Steel 2 rights some of the wrongs of the first title, but certainly not all of them.

I remember the Wii launch as if it were yesterday. Waiting in line at a 24-hour Super Walmart in the freezing Rochester, NY cold for just over 22 hours. I remember grabbing my shiny new console, a copy of Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, and of course, Red Steel. How could I not grab those titles? The latest Zelda was a sure thing, Excite Truck was a blast at the demo stations, and Red Steel just looked awesome.

Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape Review

The second downloadable episode of Resident Evil 5 proves to be far more action-driven and enjoyable.

The second piece of DLC comprising Capcom's Gold Edition of Resident Evil 5, Desperate Escape, features Jill Valentine and Josh Stone. The episode fits into the main story just as Lost in Nightmares did, but is a bit more interwoven. Players start off directly after Jill is saved in the mainline quest, and Chris and Sheva depart. Josh finds Jill, and the two proceed to escape the compound in which they are trapped. This escape makes for a decently fun play experience that is much heavier on the action than its DLC predecessor.

Max & the Magic Marker Review

Can Max and his Magic Marker draw their way into your heart?

Playing Max and the Magic Marker, I've found, is both an act of joy and frustration. It's a unique, colorful title, with its own imaginary world where the hero, Max, of course, dashes through to chase and defeat "the monster" Max accidentally created with his magic marker. The title focuses on physics-based puzzle-solving and platforming, though there's a little bit of exploration in the mix.

Aura-Aura Climber Review

Cheap and addictive arcade fun.

When it comes to titles priced at 200 Nintendo DSi Points ($2) on the DSi Shop most of them are either simple applications or recycled content from existing retail titles. It’s rare to see any new, unique games on the DSi Shop in that pricing bracket that are also fun and engaging. Thankfully Nintendo's latest DSiWare title, Aura-Aura Climber is quite possibly the best $2 game on the service.

Mouse House Review

This mousy maze game may not offer as much challenge as fans of the genre desire.

Mouse House is a simple game. In fact, Mouse House borrows the engine of a simple, yet difficult series known in North America as The Adventures of Lolo. The gameplay is puzzle-based, and involves picking up pieces of cheese in a labyrinth-style grid maze, while avoiding enemies and navigating a few basic obstacles, in order to reach the exit in once piece.
