Unit 13 Review

Zipper Interactive brings solid third person shooting mechanics to a repetitive Vita adventure.

Unit 13 hearkens back to a day when shooters were delivered without an overarching story. Instead, they were comprised of a set of chopped up missions, each with their own specific objective. It's a design that works exceedingly well on the portable Vita platform, allowing you to consume one mission at a time if you're tight for time. Despite its praiseworthy delivery of content, the experience is a bit too homogenous to remain entertaining for more than forty missions. A lackluster online offering and a dubious scoring system only serve to provide further frustrations, bringing down an otherwise solid experience.

Sumioni: Demon Arts Review

Repetition and missed opportunity make Sumioni extremely disappointing.

At face value, it may be easy to mistake Sumioni for a 2D iteration of the Okami series. It has similar sound effects, aesthetics, and settings, as well as the ability to draw on the screen like you do with the celestial brush; even their logos are similar. However, Sumioni doesn’t even come close to matching the merits of Capcom’s sprawling adventure. Instead, Sumioni is a repetitive hack-and-slash that fails to capitalize on its unique design.

Valve Reveals Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The title is due on XBLA, PSN, PC, and Mac but is little more than an updated port of the old standby.

As it turns out, Counter-Strike: Source wasn't enough of an upgrade to the original Counter-Strike for Valve. Today, the company announced the latest iteration of the series, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, yet another incremental upgrade to the original formula. Coming to XBLA, PSN, and Steam for both PC and Mac in early 2012, players will be able to execute the same team-based gameplay in classic Counter-Strike maps as well as brand new ones. Additionally, new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and other yet to be announced content will be included in the game. As of right now the only specific confirmed additions are balance tweaks and a special decoy grenade that will set off bullet sounds in an attempt to trick enemies. Gamers attending PAX Prime and London Games Festival will be able to play the latest from Valve.
