Zone of the Enders HD Collection Review

Hopefully you aren’t planning on buying this edition of the game just for Metal Gear again.

While Kojima Productions is best known for its work on the Metal Gear series, last generation they were able to sneak out a couple of other titles that took place in a war torn world dominated by mechs, known as Orbital Frames. Zone of the Enders HD Collection brings both of the PlayStation 2 titles in the series onto one disc for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While these games look much better and remain entertaining, they suffer from intermittent frame rate issues, as well as an overall slower pace that diehard fans will immediately notice.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Review

I’m not sure 30 minute cutscenes are particularly well suited for portable play, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

It wasn’t long ago that we saw the release of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Previews Editor, Julian Titus, was able to take the title for a spin and his review clearly indicated that this is a great collection of games. The same holds true here, but there have been a few changes in its transition to the PlayStation Vita.

Silent Hill HD Collection Review

Some parts of this game may be considered violent or cruel.

Considering the slow decline that the Silent Hill series has seen in recent years—including the new and disappointing Downpour—it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that Silent Hill was once the pinnacle of video game horror. For an entire generation of gamers, the franchise has been nothing more than a blip on the radar, but there was a time when a new Silent Hill was something to be anticipated. Now with the release of Silent Hill HD Collection, those gamers can finally see where all the praise came from, and give veterans a fresh look at the saga of James Sunderland and Heather Mason.

Jak and Daxter Collection Review

Light on features, the Jak and Daxter Collection is likely to have limited appeal.

Jak & Daxter Collection has been a long time coming. Given Sony's track record for HD remasters and Naughty Dog's rise in popularity thanks to Uncharted, it was surprising that these PS2 heroes hadn't been given the HD treatment earlier. Even odder, the game has been an extremely low profile launch for Sony, as they have done very little to promote the title and its availability is still extremely limited. Being that the collection is completely devoid of bonuses, and next to no clean up work has been done on these aging classics, it's not entirely surprising that Sony is giving this one the silent treatment.

God of War: Origins Collection Review

Kratos, a man of many emotions – angry, pissed off, furious, and did I mention angry?

Good news, everyone! PixlBit has already reviewed both Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. Both received a rating of 4 stars on the PSP, and if you're a fan of the series, surely the same will hold true here. Sony has lovingly ported these games to the PlayStation 3 with great results. Both games look strikingly good for PSP remasters and both control as you'd expect with the de facto PlayStation controller, as opposed to the often awkward PSP nub.
