Metal Gear Review Rewind

Not Bad for a Rookie

Alright, let’s get the obvious out of the way: Yes, Metal Gear was originally released on the MSX in Japan.  Yes, it looked and played better than the NES version. And yes, the NES version is riddled with typos, inaccurate plot elements, and a counter-intuitive menu system.  But let’s be honest-- few, if any of us were aware of the MSX version before internet gaming sites came into full blossom. Be that as it may, the NES version was respected as one of the most innovative (albeit frustrating) games of its time, and rightfully so. Despite the many differences from the MSX version, Metal Gear still provided a unique experience you couldn’t get elsewhere.

The Halloween special we finished before Christmas. We're just that lazy.

First off, I'm sorry about the audio. Technical issues caused my feed to sound a little on the distorted side. It's not horrible, but it's noticeable. I believe I've found the cause of the problem and fixed it, but unfortunately this recording is what it is.

Kiefer Sutherland To Play Snake in MGS V

David Hayter is out. Or is he??

Konami held their big “Pre-E3” presentation today, but considering all of the buzz around new consoles, the company didn’t have much to show. Besides showcasing how the new Fox Engine is implemented in the PES soccer franchise and an extended look at Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, the big news came from Hideo Kojima, who announced that Kiefer Sutherland (24, The Lost Boys) would be playing Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Nerds Without Pants Episode 17: The All-Japan Pro Podcast

Sayonara, Rob-san!

Welcome to another edition of Nerds Without Pants! No, this show isn't about an epic wrestling match between Antonio Inoki and Great Baba. This time, we revisit a topic that we talked about when we were still the Tri-Force crew on PixlTalk: Japanese games. Instead of rehashing material we take advantage of the fact that we’re nearing the end of the console cycle and grade major Japanese developers on their performance. Before that, we talk about what games we’ve been playing.

Tomb Raider Slips Into Next Year

2013 is looking better and better, but will we have any big games left this year?

Last year’s E3 had some impressive titles that got fans excited for the 2012 gaming landscape. Of course, any year in the gaming industry wouldn’t be complete without a few high-profile delays. PixlTalk Episode 59: Konami Conundrum

We covered what we covered

We all know what the big story of this week, nay this month has been. To be honest, that which shall not be named has been reported on over and over again, and all of us were quite frankly a little sick of it. Thus, we decided to focus our sights on Konami instead. Konami has been a beloved development studio bringing us many classics including the beloved Metal Gear Solid franchise. However, as of late they have not been faring so well. With few new titles and even less worthwhile ones, what will it take to make this development studio top notch again?
