Jinkoku’s Anime / Manga update Friday 07/06

Welcome everyone. This is a place where we can discuss all things anime and manga related.  I will do a weekly blog updating on anything new and cool I come across and will try to keep everyone updated on Hot Issue of the Week!   ENJOY!

MANGA/MANWHA (Comics)

Here is the newest updates so far, please note that my synopsis of each are bland and vague on purpose. I hope that you will pick up these series and start reading them yourself and we can start to engage in colorful conversations and theories about up and coming events.

You will also notice that the list is significantly shorter than before. That was to show you all that I was currently reading, but some of them are already completed series and though I read them, there will be no reason to recap on them unless a discussion is started. Else I will update you on current and new series I find in my journeys.

Bleach (issue 499)

Bleach, created by Tite Kubo, has quickly become one of the most popular shonen series to date. The main character, Kurosaki Ichigo, has the ability to see ghosts. His life changes when he is given the powers of Rukia, a death god who is charge of sending lost souls to the afterlife

*Ichigo is on his way to soul society and Urahara takes the opportunity to analyze the enemy’s abilities.

Ichigo finds out that the Quincy’s are doing their best to eradicate all in Soul Society in this war. Currently there are 6 special Quincys who are above captain level, and they can steal Bankai’s.

Urahara breaks down the 3 power stages of the enemy and informs Ichigo that the Quincy’s fear him because they cannot steal his Bankai.  

As Ichigo fast approaches the exit he is blocked by an unknown attack. Back at the entrance to the spirit gate, Urahara takes notice of the now conscious quincy who’s attack has hurt Chad, but also entered the gateway and trapped Ichigo.  Can he escape this trap?

 

Fairy Tail · (issue 290)

Fairy Tail is a shonen series that at first glance looks remarkably similar to One Piece, but it's actually created by Hiro Mashima who is famous for his previous series Rave Master. As much as I enjoyed his previous work, Fairy Tail surpasses it in every way imaginable. It has all the right pieces that create an epic shonen adventure: a magical fantasy setting, silly over-the-top characters, and top notch fighting scenes. Add in lots of humor, scantily clad women, and lots of twists and turns in the storyline and you have another addictive shonen series you simply must read each week!

* Mystogan is finally confronted by Doranbolt, who hinders his investigation and unmasks him in public.  Accusing him of being Jellal, Doranbolt is interrupted by elder council member Yajima.  Yajima explains that Mystogan is from a different world where people look exactly the same as people in their world. Unfortunately, the damage has been done as others seeking to get revenge on Jellal see him and associate him with the Fairy Tail guild.

Markov, Laxus and the ‘First’ talk about the ‘Lumen Histoire’ ( a secret passed down to Guild Masters of Fairy Tail). This brings up bad memories for the ‘First’

Meanwhile, all of Fairy Tail is having a party in their typical style. Smiles and laughter abound. Elsewhere, a sinister plot thickens.

 

Grappler Baki · (issue 44)

Grappler Baki is the original series to the popular Baki franchise which includes the sequels New Grappler Baki and Baki Son of Ogre. The premise of the series is simple, Baki Hanma's dream is to be the strongest in the world. He follows in the footsteps of his sinister father in this action-packed martial arts shounen.

*It’s official Yujiro and Orochi will be the special sanctioned match of the underground tournament.

Naruto (issue 592)

Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto, is about a world of ninjas. The main character, Uzumaki Naruto, has a demon sealed inside of him, which gives him strong powers. Naruto is an entertaining shonen series with a focus on fighting.

*Sasuke stands and reflects on what his brother has said to him. Meanwhile, the 5 hokages battling Madara are still in awe that he has resisted the Edo Tensei jutsu. Marada explains that it is a simple matter for someone like him, but he no longer interested in fighting the 5 hokage.

Naruto is battling Tobi who decides to unleash his ultimate plan prematurely.

Back in the cave: Sasuke’s team mates, Suigetsu and J?go locate him, and give him the scroll they found in Orochimaru's hideout.  After reading the scroll Sasuke sets out to find and talk with the man who knows everything, Orochimaru.  

One Piece (issue 672)

One Piece, created by Eiichiro Oda, tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his amazing journey to become the world's greatest pirate.

*On a certain island, the parents of the missing children plead to the G-5 Maries for assistance. However, their pleas are answered with violence and threats of death from Commodore Yarisugi who tells them to give up asking because their kids were killed in a shipwreck.

On Vangapunk island, the subdued children wake up and suffer from withdrawal symptoms. They rage like monsters and start to attack the crew.  Caesar Clown shows up in the nick of time with the Candy drug the children were seeking and ask them to come back with him to his lab.

On the other side, Zoro, Kinemon, Sanji, and Brook are trying to escape Caesar’s pet Slime who is pretty upset from what Kinemon did in the last issue. They decide to avoid the beast and head back to the lab.

Vice-Admiral Smoker’s crew are trying to get past the slime in their own way but find that they are unable to proceed any further.

Inside the lab, Luffy and the rest of the crew, along with Law, Smoker, and Taishigi are tied up and imprisioned. They find out that Vergo is a ‘mole’ in the Marines. His job was to assist with underground dealings of the ‘Joker’ and cover them up to elude suspicion.

Law reveals that he knows Vergo and used to work for him under the infamous “Joker”, also known as…. Don-Flamingo Don-Quixote

Claymore · (issue 128) (Monthly)

Claymore is a medieval fantasy series that follows Clare, a very strong warrior that protects regular humans from creatures called Yoma. Clare and others like her are known as Claymores because of the swords they carry. This series is dark, extremely entertaining, and filled with gory battles that should fulfill your bloodlust.

*Our heroic claymore team arrives at Rabona with time to spare days ahead of the troublesome awakened being headed their way. They find that there are serious issues to deal with as on the outskirts of the city numerous awakened beings (male and female) sit and wait to see this super being that surpasses them all. Additionally, the city is practically deserted minus a few soldiers and claymores who agreed to stay behing even at the cost of their lives.

Not wanting to provoke a fight, the ladies head to the city to reconnoiter with the remaining inhabitants.

Ex-Claymore Galatea greets them and leads the team to the very reason for the evacuation.  A large mass on the outside of town; a visage of Pricilia is emerging from it. This is puts a damper on the original plan as they will have to account for this situation as well.

Tempers flare as talk of the impending doom headed their way is discussed. But all of the fighters agree to stay and fight regardless.

On the outskirts of town, the patiently spectating awakened beings sense that the bigger threat has started to move faster now.

 

Noblesse · (Manwha issue 238)

Noblesse is the next great manhwa series to hit the site. It features a slumbering vampire that has awakened and enrolls in a high school to adapt to the new world.

*Flashback to the past: Raziel is speaking with the previous Noble lord, and is being his usual self and refusing every offer thrown at him.

Meanwhile there is talk of a human who has been killing mutants (contaminated vampires that feed on the blood of humans) and has even shown powerful resistance to the Lukedonia order. The lord requests that this human be summoned to talk and see what all the fuss is about….. Frankenstien is his name.

History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi ( issue 480)

The story focuses on Kenichi, an average 16-year-old high school student who has been picked on his whole life. However, on his first day of class, he meets and befriends the mysterious transfer student, Miu F?rinji. Driven by his desire to become stronger and to protect those around him, he follows her to Ry?zanpaku, a dojo where those who are truly strong and have mastered their arts gather.

(This manga is a remake of Tatakae! Ry?zanpaku Shij? Saiky? no Deshi (??!??? ???????^?, lit. Fight! Ry?zanpaku, History's Strongest Disciple), which was serialized in the monthly manga magazine Sh?nen Sunday Super, publishing five tank?bon between 2000 and 2002.)

*Miu is home, and Kenichi and all his friends gather together. Kojima explains that Yami is mobilizing and that another major battle is underway.

At Ryouzanpaku, Kenichi and a tired Miu decide to spar. He is happy as this is a one in a million chance to capitalize of the recovering Miu.  Once started, Miu decimates Kenichi with 1 blow. On-lookers become concerned as they note that Miu’s brainwashing has caused her power to grow faster than they anticipated.

Tough (issue 225)

The story revolves around Kiichi Miyazawa, a 17-year-old teenage high school student and his father, Seiko Miyazawa, who is training him in the family's secret martial art, Nadashinkage-ryu, a fighting style that was created around the end of the Meiji Era Japan. The style itself uses punches, kicks, throws, grappling, as well as knowledge of striking pressure points and vital points on the human body. With a passion for martial arts, Kiibo is striving to become strong by testing his skills against various fighters from different areas of Japan, as well as the world, via street fights and tournaments.

*Kibo, still in the air comes down with a Tigers Paw strike. Seiko and the others wonder where Kibo could have inherited the attacks related to a bloodline when he is an adopted child.

Kibo connects, knocking Seiko to the mat. He recovers, but is in shock for Kibo’s next move.
