So I have returned from the dungeon to report on Borderlands 2 (BL2)

I have been playing the game since the midnight release..

-       Beat it multiple times..

-       Maxed out at least 1 character to level 50

-       Downloaded new character

-       Downloaded ( currently playing ) first DLC – Pirates Booty.

----

I will not go into my usual story mode, or diary-like story telling like I usually do because so much time has passed since the game came out.

I did want to come on here and give a commentary as to what I have been seeing and experiencing with the game as of late.

Let’s start off by saying that the game is awesome!!!

I have never had a multi-player experience short of COD games that keeps me interacting and playing the same board and levels over and over.

BL2 entrenches you to the point where you want to keep playing to get that Legendary

Weapon, or that cool skin.. Either way, I find that I don’t really get tired of re-play.

With that being said.. I would like to bring up the social aspect.

I have been reviewing many forums and staying up with current events in order to know how and where to get the best weapons.

Current PC players are still at the MOD’ED level where they abuse the code to get the best of the best, but the mod’ed gun issue from BL1 is not carried over into this new installment  of Borderlands. However, the PC users still have the ability to populate the net with a slew of cool vids, and sometimes misleading and funny vids in hopes to build up their visibility as a source for all the late breaking news, tips and tricks.

I just have one tip for them…. PLEASE STATE WHEATHER OR NOT YOU ARE ON A PC OR CONSOLE IN YOUR VIDS.

Trust me, you will find it hard to take the word of someone who just posted something and gives you information,   only find that they are PC only, and the tips they have shown can only be done on PC and not the console.

So we know that the Weapon Mod issue is no longer a problem, but what is it now?

Well, that would weapon “Duplication”….

This can be done with weapons, items and money…

The forums are all-a-glow with talk about finding a person and dup’ing that missed or hard to find item.

I have done it and been a part of the scheme as well, but I can honestly say that it still does not take away from the game.

The reason being is the luck of the draw..

You may be able to get a copy of that cool item but with the promise of billions of guns and items the fact is, is that you can actually be short changing yourself.

The BEE  - is one of the premiere Legendary shields in BL2 and has the most potential to be NERF’ed do the broken feeling you lay on the bosses and enemies in the game.

My friend got one (probably Dup’ed) and I farmed mine the hard way..

Find the guy that may drop it.. kill him.. if it drops YAY, else, save and quit and rinse and repeat.

My shield was numerically lacking compared to his… Even the name was slightly different. But my shield had one thing his didn’t..  Immunity to electricity.

This example is just showing that there so much potential to get all the weapons of the game. The addiction to the hit or miss chance of getting a lump of coal or a Diamond in the ruff is so strong and appealing that more and more people seem to be farming bad guys and bosses just to own and say they got one.

Interestingly enough, Gearbox does something strange.

They give you only so much space and slots to carry stuff. This totally blows the HORDING ideal out the water since collecting and dup’ing items take up space in your inventory. Not to mention, if you are at a lower level, you will be selling or discarding cool items for leveled up versions of the same (Minus the story driven leveled  items.. They do not change) So Duplicate all you want.. but you can’t take it all with you, heheh.

So thus far….

-       We have an abundance of people FARMING bosses and enemies for easy weapon drops (with patience and luck)

-       We have Duplication schemes by the droves.

Now we have the Gimp’ers, or, the power levelers.

These guys are people who will join a game with a level 1 and allow you level them up without the effort of playing the game. They are also the people who allow the gimp’ing to commence.

I am not a fan as I did not spend all those hours playing, farming, and cussin’ up a storm to give someone a free ride through all of it… I don’t even like doing it for people who HAVE completed the game.  That is just me.

That is about it in terms of the player issues.

Now when you take all of that and apply it to the new DLC, you see that Gearbox is really messing with the player’s heads.

ITEM#1 –

New content – No new levels.

Truthfully, the announcement of the DLC happened within the course of a WEEK. I and others have been in the forums and twitter, G+, and FB scene and there was no talk of a new DLC. Right before Comic Con New York the announcement was made and no one knew anything about it.

My major question was will the level cap be lifted.  A day later came the G4 promo spots – NO WORD

-       The Kotaku article – No word.

-       The official G4 review, and IGN, and 1up articles….Still there was no word..

I was not a happy camper. I did find that there were new weapons, missions, and expanded areas.

When I downloaded it, it would have been nice to know that it was 1.29 gb (for xbl) about the size of the General Knoxx  DLC for BL1.

That took all day.

My play time is still ongoing and I am enjoying the game. I am playing with my level 50 commando  and getting my arse handed to me frequently.

I started checking the forums for the new weapons to see what I have to look forward to and their comments, along with my friend’s comment from last night shocked me.

The new weapons added to the DLC are SUB-PAR at best.

They are a new classification called SERAPH.. they are pink or Salmon colored and they have been described as better or equal to Purple but sucks when compared to Legendary ( Orange ).

The way it was explained to me was that Seraph level items compensate based on their unique stats, and that they don’t give you the immense warm and fuzzy satisfied feeling you would get from a bad ass E-tech (fuchsia), Purple item, or legendary.

The forums have been buzzing with the disgust due to the low quality weapons, and the amount you have to pay for them.

1 seraph weapon can cost around 120 seraph points.  But you can only get these special points (so far) from 2 invincible bosses whom you can only fight ONCE PER DAY . This interesting move seems to be a deliberate attempt from Gearbox to curve farming. Though I don’t mind the sacrifice.. the quality of the weapons leave a bad taste in my mouth.  I have numerous legendary items that I have EARNED (true) and I would not want to waste my time fighting a guy once a day for an item that pales in comparison.

That is like asking you to run a 26 mile Marathon for this Cool looking WINDBREAKER bought from the Goodwill store.

I THINK NOT..

I am hoping that there will be further announcements or hidden things coming out, but Gearbox has seemed to be on the hurry-up offense side of things. Nothing seems truly polished and there is no real forewarning about anything now.

BL2 is a great game; the DLC is good so far, and after being immersed in it for so long I feel like I need to come up for some air.

I will keep you posted.
