LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars Preview

Get ready for the third edition of the Lego Star Wars series, this time based around The Clone Wars story arch.

Tomorrow, fans of the Lego Star Wars series will be able to experience the latest entry, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. The title will add several new features to the Lego Star Wars series, including new battle mechanics, weapons, and characters along with a brand new story.

Unlike previous titles in the series, the story for Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars will be heavily derived from the animated TV show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars; though it will also feature classic characters from the Star Wars universe as well as certain scenes from the movie Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. A variety of classic characters can be unlocked, including Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker.

Classic Lego Star Wars gameplay elements will return alongside plenty of new features, such as the beefed up combat system. Players will now have the ability to throw their lightsabers, slice through objects with them, as well as cut and climb with the iconic Jedi weapon.

In addition to lightsaber upgrades, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars will also feature new Clone vehicles and weapons, such as the rocket launcher and rapid-fire gun. Players will also be introduced to the grappling hook, which must be used to defeat enemies and navigate levels.

Puzzle solving is also getting a makeover, as Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars promises new challenges that will “reward creative thinking.” Aside from battling and solving puzzles, players will be able to take on one of several new featured mini-games, which include Droid volleyball and snowball fights.

Finally, players will be able to take use of the 3DS capabilities with a number of fully 3D aerial dogfights that will feature classic Star Wars aircrafts like the Jedi Starfighter and the Y-Wing.

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars will release on March 27 in North America alongside the 3DS for a suggested retail price of $39.99.
