There's a Problem With Arkham City and the Devs Need Your Help

360 missing save file glitch is affecting many gamers.

Games are getting bigger and bigger these days, and even with an army of QA testers it’s impossible to find every error and glitch. Normally the ones that don’t get through are harmless. At the worst you may have to reload a save file. But sometimes, you end up with a problem that can really ruin a gaming experience. That seems to be the case for a large number of gamers playing through the Xbox 360 version of Batman: Arkham City, as an odd glitch seems to be causing players to lose their save data.

Well, “lose” may not be the correct word. The files still show up on the Xbox, but for some reason the game can’t access the save data. Sorry to be so vague, but the truth is that the people over at Rocksteady and Warner Bros. don’t seem to know what is causing this problem. With post after post on the Arkham City forums about this very issue, the developer and publisher has been slow to respond. But last night, following a story on IGN, an official post was made addressing the problem. Or, acknowledging it.

"We greatly appreciate and value you as a customer and apologize for any inconvenience if you have encountered any technical problems which might have impacted your experience with the game," writes community manager Andy Cataldo. He went on to state that the QA department has not been able to recreate the problem, and reached out to the players for some information to help them get to the bottom of it:

What version of the XBOX 360 hardware are you are experiencing the “disappearing save files” issue on?

What storage method are you using to save your Batman: Arkham City game files to (i.e. XBOX 360 hard drive, XBOX 360 memory unit, USB drive)?

What version of the XBOX 360 system software do you have on your machine?

Are you running a Beta version of the forthcoming XBOX 360 “Holiday 2011” system update?

Have you experienced the “disappearing save files” issue before and/or after installing any Batman: Arkham City DLC content (If yes, please be specific as to the DLC content you have downloaded)?

Have you experienced the “disappearing save files” issue before and/or after installing either of Batman: Arkham City's two title updates?

If you’re one of the gamers that has had this problem come up with Arkham City, you can contact WB Games support (support@wbgames.com) and give them this information. Hopefully, the issue will be fixed soon. Note that I play Arkham City on the 360 and while I haven’t played in a couple weeks, there was a title update when I booted up the game prior to writing this story. I did not experience the issue, but as of this writing the problem has not been fixed yet. We’ll keep you updated on when this issue is taken care of, but in the meantime, keep those save files just in case they work after things are sorted out.
