Dead Rising 3 Getting a New Protagonist?

We can agree that Chuck was lame, right?

We reported recently about a rumor that a new Dead Rising game starring the intrepid photographer Frank West. However, now we have information that leads to an entirely new protagonist, and possibly set in a slightly different time period than the previous Dead Rising titles. Are you ready to smash open some zombie skulls in sunny California?

That would be the fictional town of Los Perdidos, California, to be exact. According to Siliconera, Dead Rising 3 takes place in this city that is locked down under martial law following the zombie outbreak. That implies that this game actually takes place around the time of Dead Rising 1, unless this is another outbreak that happens after the events in Dead Rising 2.

Your resident zombie killer this time around is Rick (shown below), joining the ranks of Frank and Chuck for manly names that end with “k”. He’s an auto mechanic and hopes to repair a plane to escape the city before a bomb goes off, destroying everything. This is one of the main objectives of the game.

So now we have Rick, but what about those rumors about Frank West getting ready for action again? Capcom saw incredible success with the digital-only releases of Dead Rising: Case 0 and Case West, so is this an indication of another stand-alone case? Or will we see Rick and Frank side by side for a proper co-op game? We’ll let you know as we learn more.

Chuck was indeed lame....they should've nixed the entire "find zombrex for your kid" plot point and started with something else. Little kids and zombie transformation isn't exactly good fodder for games anymore, as zombies have largely overcrowded the market. They're slowly going the way of Nazis in video games...they're fun to kill, but overused and tired.

I'd love to see this game get a massive makeover. Remove the timer, focus the gameplay on survival and rescuing others. I can't wait forever for that zombie game Microsoft set a studio up for!
