Left 4 Dead 2 Adds Scavenge, Realism Modes

There will be a new multiplayer mode where players pour gasoline and an extremely hardcore difficulty mode in Valve's latest.

A recent event revealed Left 4 Dead 2's newest addition, a brand new multiplayer mode called Scavenge.

In the mode, the survivors must collect gas canisters and pour it into a generator while the infected try to hunt them down and slaughter them. It is less time intensive than the other modes as it features six rounds that start off with two minutes. Time is added whenever a survivor pours a canister into the generator, which is also how points are scored. The two teams alternate between playing as the infected and the survivors, and naturally, whoever has the most points at the end wins.

Additionally, when time expires and a survivor is holding a canister, the game goes into overtime as the game continues until the canister is dropped our emptied.

Also, 1UP noticed an option on the demo menu labeled "Realism mode." They were told that this mode is for the kind of people that can beat all of Portal in 20 minutes. It appears that it will be a brutal difficulty mode.

This mode still doesn't make much sense to me. They're getting gas because...why?
