Dragon Ball DS 2 Announced by Famitsu

The title will feature similarities and differences from its predecessor.

Game Republic, responsible for titles such as Folklore, are making a sequel to their 2008 title Dragon Ball Origins (Dragon Ball DS in Japan), Dragon Ball DS 2: Assault! Red Ribbon Army.

According to Famitsu, the sequel will be based off of the original Dragon Ball manga, more specifically the Red Ribbon Army chapter. The storyline will follow Goku, from the point he first encountered Colonel Silver by way of the seven dragon balls.

Similar to its predecessor, Dragon Ball DS 2: Assault! Red Ribbon Army will be an overhead action/RPG, where players will traverse stages filled with traps. The title promises to have a greater number of stages compared to its predecessor, each filled with a wider variety of traps and enemies.

Unlike its predecessor, which controlled solely with the stylus, Dragon Ball DS 2: Assault! Red Ribbon Army will be implementing button controls as well.

Other details revealed about the game include the many different outfits that Goku will don throughout the game depending on which locale or situation he is in. For example, a winter setting will cause Goku to dress in warmer clothes.

Dragon Ball DS 2: Assault! Red Ribbon Army will release for DS in Japan on February 11, 2010 for ¥5,229 (roughly $58). As of yet, there is no news whether the sequel will also make it to Western shores.
