Final Fantasy XIII Sells 1.5 Million Units First Week In Japan

The long awaited RPG creates a huge spike in PlayStation 3 sales in Japan.

Last week in Japan, the long awaited Final Fantasy XIII was released for the PlayStation 3. During December 17 - 20, Famitsu(translated by Andriasang) reported that the game sold 1,516,532 (sales figure also include copies obtained from hardware bundles). Final Fantasy XIII is currently the best selling PlayStation 3 title in Japan.

The PlayStation 3 console in Japan also received a sales boost due to the release of the game. Last week, 245,406 PlayStation 3 consoles were sold, breaking the weekly record for PS3 sales. A cumulative 4,265,969 PlayStation 3s have now been sold in Japan.
