Level-5 Details Business and Expansion Plans

In addition to announcing Wii and PS3 development plans, the company plans to expand in North America.

During a Q&A session at a recent Level-5 event, Akihiro Hino the CEO of Level-5 detailed the company's future plans.

Hino was questioned why Level-5 was developing so many DS titles recently to which he replied, "We're currently producing titles for PS3, Wii and so-forth. (The format, etc.) are unannounced, however (laughs). However, we develop for the DS because we determined that it was the most suitable machine to put out a new title. We've been researching and developing for consoles, but when making a product under our own brand, we must make sure that it is 'a product with a chance of success.' I believe we'll soon be able to announce a new console title."

He revealed that they are planning to open a branch in North America, with the intent of releasing more software overseas. Typically, Level-5 self-publishes titles in Japan if they own the intellectual property. As an example, Level-5 publishes Professor Layton titles in Japan; however, in North America and Europe, Level-5 has a publishing agreement with Nintendo. Outside of Professor Layton, Level-5 does not have an overseas publishing agreement for certain other intellectual properties such as their Inazuma Eleven series.

The company also has plans to expand into the entertainment industry, according to Hino. They plan to make anime, manga, and/or other tie-ins with their most notable series.
