Final Fight: Double Impact for PSN Employs Additional DRM

Capcom's new DRM requires you to be logged in on PSN to launch the game.

A couple of disgruntled PlayStation 3 owners that purchased Final Fight: Double Impact found out that the game won't launch if you are not connected to PSN with the account that has purchased the game. If someone tries to launch the game while not connected to PSN, they will be greeted with the following message, "Sign into PlayStation Network. (80029516)".

Even though Final Fight: Double Impact requires you to be signed into PSN to launch the game, once the game is launched you will still be able to play the game even if you are somehow disconnected from PSN while the game is running.

When an IGN forum member questioned Capcom about the issue, a Capcom representative replied with the following statement: "I'll try to be short. Yes, there is DRM. This was employed to combat the rampant "PSN Sharing" that has been going on over the last year. We're sorry that your family cannot play the game on their individual accounts (same console). This is a limitation of the Sony network. We are not committed to do this with all titles moving forward but the only way to evaluate impact was to try it with one title first."

It has been confirmed that this DRM is not implemented in the Xbox Live Arcade version of Final Fight: Double Impact, and Xbox 360 owners can launch the game without being logged into Xbox Live.

Looks like Capcom lost one potential sale from me. If I ever would want to get this, I'll just get it on Xbox Live Arcade.
