Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights Preview

A title similar to Professor Layton that boasts engaging puzzles, great characters, and a fun story-driven experience.

Puzzle enthusiasts may have something to look forward to this summer with the anticipated release of Konami's Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights. The title seems very similar to Level 5's popular Professor Layton series, art style and all, as players must navigate by collecting clues and solving puzzles.

The protagonist, Doctor Lautrec, is described as a "brilliant, eccentric, sarcastic professor with little or no friends but a healthy obsession for solving mysteries." Accompanying him on his quest throughout the game is his sidekick Sophie, a "perky and emotional" girl, who also happens to be the Doctor's student/assistant.

Their journey begins when a woman named Marie brings an object to Lautrec's attention that displays a mysterious map. The map seemingly points the holder in the direction of a vast treasure that once belonged to the ruler of a century old dynasty, Louis XIV. As they go on their adventure they are continuously pursued and stopped by a group of men known as the Knights of the Iron Mask, all while fighting off the Treasures Animatus.

Players will explore the underground Parisian tunnels in addition to the Paris of yesteryear. While on their quest to find treasure, players will have to identify clues and solve puzzles "using ancient maps and gut instincts" that will unlock more information about their journey as well as more mysteries.

The title boasts more than ten hours of interactive play that will include a variety of puzzles. Specifically, matching, environmental searching, nonograms, spot the difference, and others that will increase in difficulty as the game progresses.

In addition to the single player story mode, players will be able to challenge up to three additional opponents via download and play in a four player Treasure Hunt Mode. There, players will both work together and compete against one another to reach the treasure first.

Finally, the 3DS title will feature 2D as well as 3D sections. The 3D will allow gamers to search for clues as if they are in the game.
