Madden NFL 11 Hands On Preview

Madden passes out a new game for 2011.

The Madden series has had it's ups and downs with their games on sucessful and unsuccessful experiments. 2011 is much of the same with their attempt at new ideas. Madden 2011 is available for the Wii, The Xbox 360, and the PS3. During E3 I tested out Madden for the Xbox 360.

Madden 11 for the Xbox 360 is a definite improvement from it's proceeder Madden 10. The reasons for improvement are the new recieving aspect of the game. In many of the previous Maddens, gamers have complained about how bad the receiving simulation is while catching a pass down field. This year this feature is a little more realistic. When the ball is falling after the quaterback throws the ball the receiver very smoothly reaches up and catches the ball. if the ball is barely overthrown there is no random quick movement by the player to get to the ball like in old Madden games. This year if the ball is barely overthrown, it will just fall behind a reaching receiver. This is great for the future of Madden games.

All of the features in Madden are much of the same except for a few. The new kicking feature that they decide to make in every Madden appears again. This time there is a bar at the bottom of the screen. There is a meter bar that quickly slides to the right for power and sliding left for accuracy. The key is to click A when it reaches the end of the right, and then clicking A when it reaches the bar line for accuracy. My only issue with this is how unprecise the clicking was in relation to where the meter stops. I had a lot of trouble out of the gate getting the meter to stop where I hoped it would. This is a minor issue which I'm sure will be panned out for release day.

The last new feature I noticed from playing the Demo is the quick play option during the game. For every play an option pops up were you can tap the A button to auto choose a play for that specific down. This is a great feature for those who can not bear the length you need to wait in between downs. The issue for this is the fact that the button to do it is A. I found myself clicking A to skip the replays in between downs and then the screen for play picking will appear automatically clicking A. This was very frustrating to say the least but there was also no way to cancel the play except setting an audible and calling timeout.

Overall I found this game to be fun, but also a little more challenging for once. The game tempo seemed much quicker and more entertaining along with smoother. This game will be released August 11th of this year for all gamers.
