Why isn't there a thread for this, I asked myself. Well now there is.

Post any video game music that has struck your fancy recently.

So I got this soundtrack from the library, Super Mario History 1985-2010. It has all the classic Super Mario Bros. music and a bunch of sound effects from the games. One that struck me above all others was "Super Mario Bros. 3 - Athletic Theme 2". It reminds me strongly of the music in the arcade game Dig Dug.

Yeah I'm surprised not more talk here. Games can have outstanding soundtracks.

I don't usually go nuts over them' but these two FABULOUS games had phenomenal soundtracks, I bought and am I glad, they stand on own as great music too:

1. Xenoblade Chronicles (2011 jrpg by monolith soft for Wii, you should see it in Dolphin HD) 4 disc OST. Really great.

2. Smash Hit (2014 casual artistic physics game, android & iOS, by Mediocre AB in sweden) - musical score by Douglas Holmquist, listen to it and buy in any format from him at Bandcamp.com, a site for indie musicians. Ambient yet melodic & rhythmic & layered electronic music, beautiful, written to fit and pace the clean scfi aesthetic of the game. I listen to it just anytime now.
