What Game Do You Bring Your Game?

We all play games here, and I'm willing to bet that the higher percentage of people here are aslo pretty good at them.  Maybe you can hip shot and tear a room of campers apart while reading the paper in an FPS.  Perhaps you can drift and powerslide your way to victory lane in the likes of MarioKart better than Vin Diesel.  Could be you're the spiritual video game successor to the likes of  Ryu or Heihachi Mishima.  Whatever the game, you have prowess that few others have.  So I ask you, which game do you make others your bitch?

For me, that game that I have that special "swagger" with is the FIFA series.  Since first kicking the world's football back in 3rd grade (probably the age of 8 or 9), soccer has been without a doubt my favorite sport to play and watch.  Unsurprisingly, I was going to be playing some soccer video games to feed my need of the pitch when I wasn't out there actually running around on it.  I for sure know I've been playing the game since '96, and every September I get the newest version of the game and churn hours into it, even if I feel the last game was better.  No series have I been more attached to when it comes to logging in hours.

Late 90's and early 2000's I mainly used Italy for international play, with a random club team selected.  After falling in love with Paolo Maldini I decided that AC Milan would be the team I support forever, a decision I haven't changed even with the team becoming much, much, much, much weaker.  Overall a bulk of my time is invested in the career mode and playing single player, but every now and then I venture out for silverware (or trophies, because I'm a bit of a trophy whore) to play the online modes.  When playing online the majority is against my cousin, who has also been playing the game for easily over 10 years, and the last time he beat me was in FIFA 2008.  The loss stings, but to be fair that was a mess of a game, and the first version on PS3.  Since then I've easily played 300 games against him, winning or drawing them all.  Sometimes I'll wipe the floor with him, other rarer times I'll win by 1 or 2, and even rarer I'll come from a goal down and  battle back for the win.  Back in Milan's glory days our teams were almost always even matched, the past 3 years his teams have been significantly better.

It's not just against him that I win though, I rarely play online because they force you to use a type of defending control scheme that I do not like and it's stressful, but I'd easily say I've won 90% of the matches online that I've played.  As gratifying as it is, I just find myself annoyed by people picking the top teams and playing the game in a manner that exploits flaws, so the online play usually leaves a bad taste in my mouth so I don't invest a lot of time into it.

All in all, it's the game I feel that I'm better at than most.  I approach the game like my favorite player in the sport, Paolo Maldini, bringing defensive excellence that is unmatched, but at the blink of an eye I can spring a quick counter attack that leaves the opposition scrambling.

If I were to pick a runner up I'd pick Killzone 3.  As a tactician in that game I was great at capturing spawn points and pulling off kills with the M82.  Back when I used to always play, it was a rare game for me not to finish in the top 3 of a match.  Man I loved that game.

So what game are you the master of your domain at?

I'm getting old, and along with that I'm not as diligent or patient as I used to be. But I still think I can kick ass at Goldeneye or Quake or Team Fortress if I had to.  Otherwise, I prefer turn based games as they don't require reflexes so much.  ;)

Is there a turn based tactical RPG like Final Fantasy Tactics that is player vs. player, like chess?  I've always wanted to play Final Fantasy VII vs. someone, but it's hard to do a game like that and do it fair.

I don't think there is, which is strange.  I think you can play Banner Saga multiplayer, but I'm not sure. That would be really cool though!

I try not to brag too much about the games I'm good at, because sure as the world, as soon as I become boastful, someone will come along and kick my butt.  There's always someone better than me, it seems.  But there is one game that I'm confident enough in to say that I could probably beat everyone here at.  And that's Super Pac-Man!  Yeah, I'm old.

I like to think I'm good at third person action games like God of War and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. At least, I really get into them and try and learn the combat techniques.

I've never actually played FIFA outside of at a mates place, so I can't speak much to your skill :p

I'd say I'm pretty decent at Dark Souls, honestly. I'm not very good at most ofther series, but the amount of time I've sunk into the series is staggering. I win a decent amount of PvP matches and I can now get through the first third of DS1 without dying, and I got halfway through that game just using my fists.

Games I'm worst at would be RTS games. I love them too, but I'm just not at all good at them outside of building a massive force and trying to steamroll my opponent.

I'm really good at stealth games. I have the patience for it and I'm methodical and willing to lurk around in shadows, fail, reload a save, and learn from mistakes. Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, Deus Ex, Theif, Dishonored, and I even use stealth extensively in Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Crysis, and Far Cry whenever possible.
