A Few Of My Favorite Things - 2011

The user blogs here at PixlBit aren’t en masse quite yet, as it’s a new feature.  I’m here to help change all that.

As a couple of you know, my current job allows me quite a large amount of “free” time – I can’t play video games at work or anything, but I can indeed produce plenty of reading material.  When I was a fixture at 1Up, I often wrote blogs for nothing more than to provide the community with something they might be interested in reading.  Whether they liked or hated said blogs, I was content to merely provide reading material.

I’m far from a snob about my games…I do know what I like and dislike though.

On that note….these are a few of my favorite things.

  1. -Asari Pole Dancers in Mass Effect 2.  I was blown away by how alive Club Afterlife felt….and fully enthralled by Aria T’Loc brushing me off AS IF I weren’t the baddest mother-effer in the galaxy.  Shepard gets what he wants, girl.  I ended up settling for Tali.  Let alien nookie cutscene ensue.
  2. -The opening music for Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s start screen.  That deep, slow melody resonated with me.  I’d often turn on the game and let the start screen run for a good 15 minutes or so while I checked email and texted various people.  It made me feel like an augmented badass.
  3. -PS2 Classics.  FINALLY, after YEARS of the PSN store being up and fully functional, Sony took a cue from Microsoft and Nintendo and began adding last-gen games to its storefront.  Yeah I know, they’ve BEEN HAVING PSOne games…so what?  Not all of us enjoy looking back on an era we never participated in.  Gimme Persona 4….!!!!!  Until then, the excellent Odin Sphere for ten bucks is my mantra.
  4. -Online Passes!!!!  Thank you, EA!!!  Just kidding.  These companies can take their online passes  and stick them far and roughly into ass.  How do I get around it?  I just refuse to buy games requiring an online pass.  I vote with my dollars.  How does it feel to NOT get this 60 bucks, EA?  Eat SHIT.  ESPECIALLY for the Dead Space 2 online pass.
  5. -Niche games!!!!  I discovered my love of the Shin Megami Tensei games this year.  I’ve been missing out….glad I was worded-up….I’ll never be starved for high-quality Japanese goodness again.
  6. -Extended console gen life….this is what…the SIXTH year of this console generation?  Fifth?  Either way, it’s been a damn fine run, and I’ll be glad to voice my opinion that this gen still has a good two years left in it.  I’ll more than likely still be playing my PS3 after the “4” comes out.

I could go on and on.  I won’t though….if I went on and on about EVERYTHING, there’d be nothing to follow up this blog with!!

These are a few of my favorite things!!!!

I'll probably start blogging soon after I start college. If it wasn't for college, I'd probably still be working ridiculous hours (50+ a week).

Plus I'm and English major, so I do enjoy writing a few nonsensical fun blogs.

Keep and eye out for them and I'll be looking forward to seeing more blogs from the community ;)

I also enjoy "#5" and "#11" See those numbers were helpful after all. I blog over at 1up quite a bit, but maybe I will post them here as well.

The extended console cycle is why we had so many awesome games this past year and why next year looks like it could be even better. I can't understand why people are clamoring for new, expensive consoles. Developers have shown that there is still some juice left in these machines.
