Silent Hill: Downpour Review

More like a light drizzle.

What’s the key to great horror? More importantly, what is the key to creating great horror video games? Is it a strong, relatable character? Is it the combat? Monster designs? Atmosphere? Whatever your answer, one thing became abundantly clear to me as I played Silent Hill: Downpour: developer Vatra Games didn’t ask this one crucial question at any point in this game’s creation.

Silent Hill: Downpour Design Director Leaves

As the game goes into the final stretch, a key player bows out.

Silent Hill: Downpour is expected to hit stores next March, as part of Konami’s major push for the horror series. With the game reaching that final crunch period, it was announced that the design director, Brian Gomez, has left the project. But the sudden departure isn’t from overwork or creative differences, but something more personal.

Rush'N Attack: Ex-Patriot Review

Maybe making a sequel to an obscure game from the '80s wasn’t a great idea?

Rush’N Attack: Ex Patriot is the latest in a string of updates/sequels of old Arcade/NES games, some of which have been phenomenal, like Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Unfortunately for Konami, that same success isn’t manifesting in their sequel to Rush’N Attack. This is thanks in large part to some uninspired levels, finicky jump mechanics, and one-dimensional gameplay. The gameplay does occasionally give off a Metroid vibe, but it’s clear the developers didn’t know how to really capitalize on that concept, resulting in a ho-hum experience.
