Digital Mystery Tour Episode 17: Distant Worlds

A memory of exotic lands in a world known as...Vana'Diel.

Welcome back to Digital Mystery Tour. With the recent release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, it seemed like a perfect time to look back at some of my favorite songs from the previous online Fantasy: XI. I'm a little under the weather, so I let the music do the talking for me, and close things out with a couple tracks from A Realm Reborn. If you have fond memories of FF XI, you may want to check out the Nerds Without Special I did earlier in the year, which features a ton more of the game's soundtrack, as well as some fun and touching stories. Enjoy, and I realize the bagpipes in the San d'Oria theme can be a tad grating on the ears, but what can I say? It's home to me.

THIS WEEK'S MUSIC:

00:00: Memoro de la Stono

05:07: The Kingdom of San d'Oria

09:43: The Sanctuary of Zi'tah

13:57: Selbina

16:14: Distant Worlds

22:47: Gridania

26:36: Battle Theme (FF XIV: A Realm Reborn)

I've never played FFXI but I do like its soundtrack, so I'm glad to see it getting some love. I'm only familiar with the soundtrack of the game's original release, though, so I hadn't heard "The Sanctuary of Zi'tah" before. I like it. Guess I need to listen to the soundtracks of the expansions.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Review

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an entry in the Metroid Prime series - 18 years, in fact. It was 8 years ago that Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced and its development was more than a little turbulent. Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
