Tribes: Ascend Beta Release Date

The Beta will start early next month

G4TV is reporting that Hi-Rez Studios has set a release date for the Beta of Tribes: Ascend, a free-to-play first person shooter. The beta will be released on November 4, 2011. In order to get into the beta, players can apply for a beta key on the Tribes: Ascend website, get a code from the game's Facebook and Twitter pages, or pre-order the game.

Pre-ordering the game will also give you the VIP starter kit, which includes a 33% cost saving, VIP status in game which will put you in a more elite set of queues, in-game gold, and boosters of some kind. I'm not sure how pre-ordering works with a free-to-play game but I'm guessing these are items you normally would have to buy via a in-game store. The beta will include four multiplayer maps, two game modes, three vehicles, and will support up to 32 players with 12 classes.

In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
