Minecraft Sells 4 Million Copies

And the game isn't even out of beta yet!

Minecraft technically doesn’t come out for another couple of weeks, but that hasn’t kept it from becoming one of the biggest success stories in the history of PC game development. Over the weekend, Markus “Notch” Persson announced on his Twitter account that the beta version of Minecraft has passed the 4 million mark in sales.

With more and more focus being placed on the home console market, 4 million units sold for a PC game is a pretty big deal these days, especially for a game that hasn’t been officially completed and packaged yet. Notch will surely be celebrating this milestone along with other achievements at MineCon 2011, the first Minecraft gaming convention. Taking place November 18-19th in Las Vegas, the convention will kick off with the official release of the runaway building sim, along with many other events. Minecraft is also coming to the Kinect this winter.
