Madden Team Poaches MLB The Show Talent
Kolbe Launchbaugh leaves SCEA San Diego for Tiburon.
Longtime developer of the famous Madden NFL franchise, Tiburon has seen quite the turnover this year. Earlier this spring some top level talent left the studio and were replaced by Cam Weber as GM of football products, Roy Harvey as executive producer, and internally elevated Mike Young in the role of creative director. The team is still patching holes and is now adding some significant talent, as Kolbe Launchbaugh has announced via Twitter that he is leaving SCEA San Diego to become creative director on Madden NFL.
Launchbaugh has worked on several projects at SCEA in his 15 years with the company, the most notable being the MLB The Show franchise, and is most recently helming the role of supervisor of game design. MLB The Show is one of the industry’s premier sports simulation franchises and the move could mean big things for the Madden franchise’s future offerings.
While it is set to take effect January 9, 2012, we’ll have to wait considerably longer before we see the payoff of this move, as Launchbaugh will be focusing on the franchise’s next generation projects – joining a team that is already hard at work on the next big thing.
