Dead or Alive 5 Getting a Visit From Virtua Fighter

Akira joins the cast of the next DoA.

The new hotness in fighting games has to be the guest character. This is nothing new, but in recent years it has become a major feature of the fighting game. We famously had Star Wars invade SoulCalibur, Freddy Krueger pull the Mortal Kombat cast into his boiler room, and this week sees Street Fighter x Tekken release with a plethora of guest characters, most of which will be PlayStation exclusive. Not to be outdone, Tecmo is jumping into the fray for Dead or Alive 5, but the first guest announced is probably the last thing anyone would guess.

Instead of going crazy with the addition of a Halo Spartan like they did for DoA 4, Team Ninja is recruiting the granddaddy of the 3D fighting game. That’s right, Akira from Virtua Fighter is making an appearance in Dead or Alive 5.

Details are still sparse for the eagerly awaited fighting game, which is due in September, but the addition of Akira is a strong one for fans. After all, it’s been some time since either Dead or Alive or Virtua Fighter have been on home consoles. Only time will tell if DoA will see some more guests ready to square off against Hayabusa and Kasumi.

Welll wonders never cease...

2012 is the year of the crossover then. Control wise, it won't be too difficult to put in Virtua Fighters in DOA's world. Punch, Kick, Guard, just add the Throw command.

It would be funny if they put throwback 'skins' of each character from the Playstation/Saturn day...
