Naughty Dog Employee Says Cross Game Chat Coming Soon

A slip-up in the official Sony forums claims that the touted cross game chat feature will come in the next PS3 firmware update.

Naughty Dog employee, RecklissAbandon, in a recent post on the official Sony forums may have accidentally spilled the beans on the release schedule of the upcoming cross game chat feature for the PlayStation 3.

The post references Uncharted 2's multiplayer mode and how cross game chat will allow players to communicate information after in-game death.

"I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy [sic] the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies [sic] positions."

The post has since been deleted. The validity of the statement is clearly unknown, but the next firmware upgrade should reveal if there is any truth to RecklissAbandon's words.

This is a cool feature. I've heard that EA is really holding it back, as well as custom soundtracks. Hopefully Sony tells 'em to eat one and just puts it out there anyway.

Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
