Major Nelson Says No Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Add-On

Steve Ballmer was not clear in what he meant according to Major Nelson.

Yesterday, news broke that Microsoft was planning a Blu-Ray add-on for the Xbox 360.

Today, Major Nelson is claiming that Microsoft CEO was unclear during the interview about exactly what he had meant. The add-on referenced in the interview is actually for the PC.

Major Nelson remains steadfast that the future of Xbox 360 lies in 1080p streaming video. Whether or not this is the truth of the situation remains to be seen, but at this point only time will tell.

With a tongue like that, I gotta believe the Ballmer.

I don't see the point of an add-on player at this point in the technology's life. It would cost at least $150 and you can buy a stand-alone Blu-Ray player for under $200.

A HD-DVD add-on (almost) made sense a few years ago when stand-alone players were still quite expensive relative.
