Mass Effect 2 Save Importing Detailed

The BioWare community manager details how to import save data from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2.

On the official BioWare forums Chris Priestly, the BioWare Community Manager has revealed the details behind importing a Mass Effect save into Mass Effect 2. Priestly also confirmed that Mass Effect 2 will feature a New Game + after the initial completion of the title.

In order to import save date on the Xbox 360, players must have the save data on the hard drive and players must be signed into the gamertag that owners the Mass Effect save file.

If importing on PC, players will be able to chose their Mass Effect save file within Mass Effect 2.

Upon selecting the proper save file to import, players will have to choose which character(s) they would like to import. If players choose to import more than one character, the game will create additional character profiles similar to the original title.

There is a limit of eleven end-of-game saves games that can be brought into Mass Effect 2 on both platforms. If more than eleven end-of-game saves are available, only the first eleven saves will be available for import.

According to Priestly, players may be surprised to see just how much of the save data is transfered. While seemingly trivial, the game actually records each and every plot decision in the game. This data will be brought into Mass Effect 2 upon import.

Players will also receive different bonuses depending on the level of their Mass Effect character. Though the highest level may earn significant bonuses, Priestly assures the community that they won't be significant enough to put other characters at a disadvantage.

Finally, the imported save data will also work with the New Game + file after players complete the game.

Mass Effect 2 will be available on January 26 in America and on January 29 in Europe.
