Project Needlemouse Revealed to be Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sega pulls the covers off their latest Sonic project.

Earlier today, Sega finally pulled the wraps off of their upcoming Sonic project, Project Needlemouse. Falling in line with the rumors, the title is in fact a follow-up to the classic Sonic series, and will be titled Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.

The title will be appearing on all three home consoles as a downloadable title. Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be in high definition, and both the PlayStation 3 and Wii versions of the game will offer some form of motion control.

Just like the original Sonic titles, Sonic 4 will be presented in 2D and will offer the same style of gameplay. Unlike the original Sonic, this game will incorporate leaderboards as seen in most modern titles.

The title is scheduled for release this summer, and given the Episode 1 moniker, it's likely to be one of a series of titles.

In conjunction with the announcement of the title, Sega has opened up an official website with a number of countdown timers that will reveal new information about the game shortly. For more information, visit

Seriously Sega, did it really take you this long to figure out that this is the game you should be making!?

Hopefully sales of this game are so phenomenal that they realize that they should never make another crappy 3D Sonic game again.

Well before I get ahead of myself, hopefully they don't try and figure out a way to totally fuck this game up.

While seeing Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a nice surprise, seeing it as a episodic download title just seems wrong in a way. Then again, as long as it isn't bad as the recent 3D sonic titles I'll take it.
