Amazon.com Discontinues Xbox Live Arcade Game Sales

The popular online retailer quietly shut down its Xbox Live Arcade store.

A recent posting on Amazon.com revealed that the company has stopped selling Xbox Live Arcade titles. Amazon originally launched the store in 2009. The Xbox Live Arcade store provided an alternative to customers who wanted to purchase titles with regular money rather than Microsoft Points for the precise price of the individual title.

Amazon has confirmed that they will still sell Microsoft Points in both the physical card and online code formats.

Speculation is that gamers can now buy Microsoft points in more relevant packages, and as such, the service became less necessary, I believe.
