Sega Officially Announces Sonic Classic Collection

While the BBFC and OFLC leaked the title early, Sega has officially confirmed it.

Today, Sega officially announced Sonic Classic Collection for the DS. The game will contain the first three Sonic the Hedgehog games as well as Sonic & Knuckles.

Sonic lovers can expect the title early 2010 in both Europe and America, according to Sega.

SONIC CLASSIC COLLECTION DEBUTS ON THE NINTENDO DS

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (December 1, 2009) -- SEGA Europe Ltd and SEGA of America, Inc. today announced that, for the first time ever, the original games from legendary gaming icon, Sonic the Hedgehog™ will be coming to the Nintendo DS™ system. Available in early 2010, Sonic Classic Collection™ gathers together the first four Sonic The Hedgehog adventures - Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles - introducing some of the most influential Sonic the Hedgehog titles to a whole new generation of DS gamers. Sonic Classic Collection allows fans old and new to speed through the much loved zones of the four original Genesis adventures, in a bid to collect the Chaos Emeralds and save the world. Sonic Classic Collection will offer a new save feature, a first for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog 2, as well as a video recounting the history of Sonic offering gamers an in-depth look at the speedy hedgehog.

"The original Sonic the Hedgehog games were the start of a pop culture phenomenon that extended beyond just the video game world," commented Sean Ratcliffe, Vice-President of Marketing for SEGA of America. "The Sonic Classic Collection will introduce a whole new generation of gamers to this beloved Hedgehog and take them back to his humble beginnings."

Sonic Classic Collection for the Nintendo DS™ system will hit stores in Spring 2010.

I hope we get a review copy of this guy. I'd like to own these Sonic games in convenient DS form. Better would be a Virtual Console for the DS, but hey, I'll take what I can get for now.
