January Sales Down 34% From 2011

No new games are to blame for the lame sales figures.

The NPD group announced that its January sales figures and consumer spending on video games fell 34% to $750.6 million in the US. Hardware sales totaled $324 million, down 38% year over year. According to G4, these are the worst sales figures since January 2004.

October NPD Sales Results Revealed

NPD officially reveals the sales results in October and Nintendo reclaims the top spot.

This month's NPD results reveal that the Wii is once again the top selling console in North America, selling over half a million consoles. The Wii price drop was first introduced in late September, and the results after a month of sales reveals that Wii console numbers are healthier than ever. In fact the Wii was the only console to actually sell more in October than September.

Intent to Purchase Holiday Games Down

A recent NPD study reveals that more people will be holding on to their spending dollars due to the struggling US economy.

NPD is known to conduct various consumer surveys in order to gauge the interests and spending patterns of consumers. Their latest annual survey of consumers' holiday spending intentions has revealed that 30% of consumers intend to spend less than last year on holiday gifts.
