The PS4: Did Sony sell out?

There is another website I visit and a couple of the notable people there (the administrator and the tech guy) are very disappointed that Sony will not be bringing in new technology for the PS4. It will be made of PC parts and will have little proprietary material inside it.

I can understand their disappointment. Sony has always been about pioneering technology. The problem is that Sony has been in dire financial straits for a number of years and can't afford the PS4 to have a slow start like the PS3. They simply had no choice but to make the PS4 accessible to everybody. Ergo, that's why the console is a social media monster that combines the best of all worlds.

Bottom line for me is that if I can play the PS4 like I do my PS3, then I'm happy. I'm not a big Social Media guy but if this excites the Facebook/Twitter/YouTube crowd and gets them to buy the console, great.

I expect the Xbox Infinity to have the same innards and the same philosophy so it will come down to the games and reputation of the two companies and Sony still has the better exclusives and while they may have alienated a number of people the last 7 years, Microsoft has damaged their reputation significantly among their most important market, the 08-25 year old male. Also, MS will probably not waver from their obsession with Kinect 2.0 and forcing owners to be online at all times.

If the product is as good as advertised then the PS4 will bring Sony out of its doldrums. I know they didn't like having to do this but they simply don't have a choice any longer. They need to get some headway in the U.S. and U.K. markets and early on, it looks like they have made everybody happy so far.

I, for one, am excited and have already earmarked some money for a pre-order. I can't wait to try the finished product and hopefully at E3, we'll see the finished product at the Sony press conference.

I'm by no means that well versed in the specifications but people are telling me that the PS4 is a technological beast and will stand up with most high end PC's for atleast a year. I'm not sure whether that's impressive or not but like you said it all comes down to the games catalogue. Atleast the console will be easy to develop for this time around!

Yes, especially when it comes to Unreal Engine 4 games. Sony learned that the Core Engine struggles with UE3 titles.

It seems awesome and I'm pretty excited about it. As a part-time PC gamer, we are apt to stauncly state, over and over again, that "no console will ever equal a gaming PC in power." Well, that's not entirely true. Consoles have the added benefits of running extremely light operating systems (which frees up tons of processing power), and the PS4 is boasting some pretty fantastic RAM. Consoles have the added benefit of being "exclusively tweaked" for each game because the developers know exactly the specs the game needs to fit- no "one size fits all" coding that has to happen with PC games. That also frees up some power.

I'm rather excited about the PS4 as well. It doesn't really bother me that there's not a whole bunch of new technology because it's obvious that that's not really Sony's focus. Their concentration is more on immediacy and ease of use through sharing. The only thing I find mildly disappointing is the fact that there's no backwards compatability. I understand that could turn into a non issue what with the streaming service and all, but I prefer physical copies as opposed to digital.

The PS3 and PS4 are very different machines so you can have b/c but you'll be able to download PS3 games onto the PS4, just like we can right now from the current PS3 PSN Store.

At least used games are a go!

I'm excited about the PS4 too.  I like a lot of the sharing features, and am interested in seeing how they pan out.  As far as games go, Sony seems pretty intent on providing experiences other people aren't.  I'l probably get an Xbox too, but I am more excited about the PS4

I'd only buy Infinity if they would come up with exciting new franchises. I'm not a fan of Halo or Gears Of War; nor do I play Western RPGs. They need to rely less on 3rd party software.

Hey I love my PS3 but I'm taking a "wait and see" on the PS4. I'm not even sure what it is yet. Sure we got specs the other night but that's about it.

I'm not excited about the next Xbox. Yeah I've bought their last two but I consider it an necessary evil. I bought them because there were certain games (Sega stuff on the Xbox and early JRPGs on the 360) that I wanted to play. I'm not a Halo/Gears fan either

I was a little excited until I heard the PS4 will not play PS3 games and any digital downloads I currently own won't work on the PS4 neither.  Then I hear about the rumor that some games will require a Vita also to play?  I really hope that's b.s.

I think I'll do what I always do with any new console release.  Wait out the bugs and price drops.  I hadn't owned a PS3 a year yet.  Now that the PS4 is coming, the PS3 is on the way out.  I wouldn't be surprised that more games will be pushed back for a PS4 release.

Nothing wrong with that. If Watch Dogs is a launch title, I doubt I could wait, though.

By the time I finish playing all the PS3 games I want to play, I'll be too old for a PS4

Holy crap. Why didn't you write like this before? If you spent more time writing proper articles instead of being an arse to everyone, people might have liked you. You wouldn't have needed dirty tactics to get our attention!

Anyway, I'm happy for this news. While playstation exclusives always ran really smoothly, the multi platform games were sometimes a bit shit on the ps3. If Sony keep up their awesome first and third party titles, I think there is very little to worry about.

1up never enforced any rules on their site and therefore, I could say whatever I wanted. That's one reason why their site failed. It was an asylum on the message boards, the news stories and the blogs. Here, there are rules and I will follow them.

What are the rules here? And Brian, what happened is water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned, and I was just joking around. Don't take anything I say seriously lol.

Seeing that the staff visits these blogs, I'm sure you are expected to behave properly here. It's common sense.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about how cool the suspend/resume feature sounds. I need to see it in action, it sounds like a huge improvement to user experience. I hate the process of booting, signing in, loading games, waiting for logos, loads, and doing a handful of things just to get to the main menu, then load my game and wait to get into the game. Anything that gets between me and the start button gets annoying over time for me. The ability to just suspend the game, turn off the system, walk away, come back later and jump right in with the press of the resume button would be a great improvement in the user experience for me.
