Tour de 64: DooM 64

DooM 64 is the real DooM 3.

Though it wasn't the first of its kind, the original DooM is often credited as the game that popularized the first-person shooter. With detailed graphics for the time, heaps of ugly baddies, a handful of cool weapons, and endlessly challenging gameplay, it's no wonder it was a hit. Despite a slower gameplay pace than the previous PC games, DooM 64 is a worthy followup and an enjoyable run 'n gun shooter in its own right. For better or worse, they don't make 'em like this anymore.

Mortal Kombat Review

Mortal Kombat is back, but should it have stayed in the 90s with C&C Music Factory and Crystal Pepsi?

Who would have guessed that the 2009 release of Street Fighter IV would bring the fighting game scene of the 90s back with a vengeance? While the genre has never truly gone away, there was something about the release of Capcom’s fourth numbered entry in the SF series that seemed to remind gamers of all types that it’s fun to beat the crap out of your family and friends. Of course, a return to the fighting scene of the 90s also means a glut of also-rans showing up, and even though it might not be as crowded as it was in, say, 1994, separating the gems from the stinkers can be an issue. Mortal Kombat Preview

Mortal Kombat is done messing around with its return to 2d gameplay.

After sitting in a line without moving for nearly an hour, I was about rip out some spines after getting inside the Mortal Kombat demo. Luckily, the game did all of that for me. The developer demoing the game showed us the brutal return to the franchise's roots, and its never looked better. The moves now feature a see through effect for when characters hit their opponents particularity hard. Showing bones breaking and muscles tearing through the skin, it really makes for some awesome presentation.
